According to this press release the two CGs are going to be practicing Olympic security. Elsewhere, I read that

The boating community and public citizens will be able to see and hear multi-agency assets on the water, with tactical communications taking place with the use of IWN radios.

All correspondence will be preceded with Exercise-Exercise-Exercise.

Large vessels may transit without regard to the traffic separation scheme.

Small vessels may be approached by Canadian Maritime forces, operating with U.S. Coast Guard personnel onboard, and Coast Guard small boats and crews.

What fun! :crook

Our flotilla will be taking part in this exercise exercise exercise.

I get the impression that the exercise is going to involve stopping and boarding a lot of pleasure boats that are unlucky enough to be in the area -- just for practice. I am glad my boat is off the water for the winter.

As far as I know the exercise only involves government vessels, of which USCG Aux are included when on patrol. However that doesn't mean that a suspicious boat in the area wouldn't be stopped, which is always the case.
