Can a C-Dory 25 Cruiser be Documented?

Has anyone USCG Documented their 25 Cruiser? I didn’t know if it would measure out to 5 GT or not. Also with basically very little transom space where have you put your boat name and hailing port? Any pictures you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have documented a 25. If you do the formula correctly the 25 comes in at more than the 5 ton volume required.

The name does not need to be on the transom in an outboard powered vessel. It goes on the side of the hull, I have always put it aft, with hailing port below it.

I have been documenting my own vessels for over 35 years. There are less reasons to do it now for a small vessel than in the past. The CG renewal now carries a yearly fee. Many states require that you have a state sticker, even though it is not a state registered vessel. Florida is one of those states. Even visiting boats are sometimes stopped if they don't have some state sticker. Florida has a sojourner's exemption, which you have to apply for.

To use the documentation to avoid sales tax can be tricky. The states get a record of where boats are documented. If a Delaware corporation or Montana corporation is used, some states will track down the LLC. Also almost all states check the roles at the marinas to see if a vessel is there on the date of their taxation. There is no privilege given to documented vessels by foreign nations or protection of the US military. However it is easier to check into many foreign countries with a documented vessel (not countries one would normally be visiting with a C Dory like Canada, Mexico or the Bahamas.

Thanks. I thought it probably would qualify but I just wanted to confirm it with someone who had been successful doing it. As always I appreciate your help and on another note it will not work out for me to be in Pensacola next week but I appreciate your gracious offer.
