The cable boot on my 22 in the side of the splash well is shot. I am going to replace it. The hole in the hull is 3 1/2 inches. The inside diameter of the securing ring for the old boot is 4 inches. Does this mean I order a 3 1/2 or 4 inch boot?

Does anyone know of a suitable replacement that uses the same holes in the splashwell as the original (6).

I would like a split boot so I don't have to disconnect everything.

Thanks,

Stefan

This is not going to be very specifically helpful, for two reasons:

1) I wouldn't presume the stock boot on my boat is the same as yours.
2) I think they go by not only diameter, but that there are different hole patterns.
2) I can't remember the brand I bought (although I'll be at the boat in a few days and could look).

But what I wanted to say is that for quite a while, every time I saw a replacement boot online or in a shop, I would check it out. They never matched mine. So I was thinking I would make one of Sunbrella (would probably last longer anyway), perhaps using the original rim. Anyway, then I happened into a boat shop that had the *exact* same one; size, hole pattern... the works. Finally!

I guess all I want to say is that hope exists (and if yours is like mine, I will look up the brand/model # in a few days if you'd like me to).

Think hard before buying another rubber boot. Mine lasted only two 4 months season with sun exposure and then turned to cracked mush. I'm going to have my auto upholstery guy fab me one that will fit under the old rubber boot's ring. He'll make it out of convertible top material. Should last 10 years if my wife's mustang top is any measure.

I'll have him install a zipper on the side or snaps to allow me to slip it around the cables. I don't think the boots keep water completely out of the wire bundle and are mostly there for looks and major water deluge over the stern. In which case the convertible top material should work fine or better.

I'll post some pix by and by when I get that project done.

I installed this about 6 years ago and it's still going strong: T-H split boot. The factory boot lasted maybe 2 years, this one is good. I bought some vinyl patch from Home Depot to glue the edges together. Worked well.

I just installed this, because the factory webbing wore out, after 9 years: Zippered Rigging Sleeve . I got the 48" length and it fit well.
