Cabinet hinges on 2008 C-Dory 22

I need to remove the cabinet door under the helmsman's seat to install my Norcold fridge. The hinges have no visible fasteners on the outside -- only 3 small holes on the inside -- looks like each hinge must have 3 prongs which have been driven into those holes and maybe glued into place. Can't get them to budge, gently tapping around the edges with a chisel or driving blunt nails into the holes from the inside. Is there something I'm missing here?

Are you sure that the hinges don't have a cover that pops off but which conceals screw heads? I've seen some hinges like that. E.g. a shiny piece of chromed metal or stainless that popped onto a bracket that was screwed in. A picture would be helpful.

I haven't done much posting here -- will try to put a picture up later.

The hinges are solid -- always figure I'm missing something when I'm at the point of forcing a solution.

I figure the same because every time I do force something, I found out why (and how) I was wrong.

Yep, agreed. I'll "force" something once I know how it works and that it needs to be popped/forced/etc. But I hate forcing stuff before then, and then half the time it breaks :amgry Nothing like making more work for yourself :cry

My boat doesn't have hinges like that, so I can't help other than to commiserate.

My 2009 TomCat probably has the same hinges. They have a cover that does pop off with some force. Try inserting a thin screwdriver at the narrow end, farthest from the actual hinge. FYI, I liked these hinges so much I asked Scott at Triton to send me a supply for a small travel trailer we had built in North Carolina. He found the last two dozen of them and said they weren't using them on the new models.

Ragtime Joe,
Sorry to read of your problems with door hinges. My 2003 C-Dory door hinges were very easy to remove-visible screws. Always seems like the 'easiest task' is never easy!! Good to read you're getting good support from C-Brats.

Thanks to all for your ideas. Seems like a small little problem --I suspect the irremovable hinge is one of my excuses for procrastinating about cutting out the hole for the fridge!

Yes, I'm quite impressed by the help I'm getting on the site. I've been on here for several years and seeing the supportive atmosphere is one of the reasons I bought my 22 just a couple weeks ago.

Sure nuff! It was exactly as Rogerbum and Sasscom described -- a very well-made cover that has to be pried away from the narrow end of the hinge, and it's held there with some really sticky stuff.

Thanks again -- Now I have to start cutting!

Thanks for posting this question. I also have a 2008 CD22 with the same hinges and always wondered how they could be removed, which I have not had to do yet. I am sure the time will come and now I know what needs to be done.
