We have been looking to purchase some type of carpet to go over the Dri-Deck on our cabin floor to protect my delicate feet. I come up with needing a piece about 27" x 75". We have looked at various types of industrial/office matting but cannot find anything in a neutral beige color to match our interior. I'd be interested to hear what others of you have done in this regard. Thanks.

trapse on over to your local home supply store and look at their collection of carpet runners. They make some that are almost a perfect fit.

damn I hope I spelled "trapse" correct or Mike will be all over me

We used some runners from Costco. They fit great and most are washable, if they don't have the rubber backing.
 
We got our ozyite "indoor/outdoor" carpet from Home Depot as I recall. It was cheap enough we can recarpet when it get to scuzzy. It comes in several colors and about a 12' width as I recall. You can cut-it-to measure and do the walkway, the dinette deck, the cockpit, shelves, etc. Really seems to make things quieter too.

Works well, and cheap!

PS: I don't recommend getting the rubber-backed stuff. We use it initially and the rubber backing seemed to stick to the fiberglass after the carpet was a year old, or so. PITA to take it up.
 
I could see where the rubber backing might stick, but if used over the DryDeck, the backing helps smooth out the bumps. We have the Drydeck stuff under the carpet, works good

I just cut a piece of indoor outdoor carpet to fit. I tried a runner but it kept migrating on me, maybe caused by my hound. I don't use dri-deck in the cabin, as I need all my headroom. I do use it in the cockpit after trying carpet, rubber matting, and various combinations.

Rollie on C-Batical had some very deluxe snap in carpeting made, bound edges, looks great. I think the place was in Holland or Muskegon, MI? A few pics are in his album here -C-Batical carpet pics

When 5 recently had canvas made, the installer whipped up a nice piece of forest green, heavy duty carpet, cut it to fit, bound the edges and installed snaps at the four corners.

If you are interested, here is the website that Mark (Not For Hire) mentioned where I bought my carpeting from: [/url]http://www.snapincarpet.com/. The carpeting is not inexpensive but is of a very high quaility. It is so durable that it can be installed on docks, decks, etc. After fishing, I just unsnap it, remove it from the boat and and hose it off. I have even cleaned it with my power washer on low pressure. This is the third season for it and it looks just like the day I purchased it. I found Custom Marine Carpet to very prompt with their service and excellent people to deal with.

Nick, make sure he used some good bedding compound under those 4 snaps at the corners. The deck invariably gets wet and you don't want water getting into the balsa core. He may not have thought of that...

Indoor/outdoor carpet has worked inside the cabin and the cockpit for us for 5 years -- still looks good, easy to clean with a good hose/rinse out, and since it is cut very snug no need to bed it or snap it -- it fits tightly and doesn't slip.
Still no news from Wallas so nothing to report yet on that front.
 
Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. I think the link to the custom marine carpet folks is just what we were looking for. Would you suppose they have a C-Dory floor pattern? I'll for sure contact them.

Bill and El, that's what we've got too. Cheap stuff from HD or Lowes, can't remember which. Also used the same stuff in the cockpit over the drydeck. Just have to lift it once a year and hose it out.

Don't worry about the Wallas. Your carbs are in Kotzebue AK now, they arrived last Sat!

We also got indoor/outdoor carpet from HD and cut it to fit. We couldn't find the perfect color so settled for a darker brown and were very glad we did. It's amazing what a difference it made in the boat. It blended so well with the wood and just made it feel warmer in there.
 
I also just use indoor/outdoor carpet cut to fit. When we did a remodel of our house a few years ago, there was a period of about 2 months when we were down to one bathroom with a shower and that bathroom was torn to hell (except for the shower). I slapped down some indoor/outdoor in there as a temporary solution during construction and I bought a deep blue since I planned on using it in the boat. Works fine.

I do fish a lot and that often involves traipsing (correct spelling BC :) ) in and out of the cabin from a wet cockpit. Hence, I laid down some dri-deck under the carpeting. That helps with ventilation and allows it to dry more quickly.

He bedded that also. He also redid all of the snaps that were put on at the factory, which were pop-riveted with no bedding.

My guy is good!

I was at the local Costco today and they had some outdoor carpet mats at 6' x 9' for $25. I bought a green (I think) one and cut it to completely cover the cabin aisleway floor. Then I put the other rug on top of it. The remainder of the mat I cut to fit in the cockpit spanning the width between the entries and past the cabin door. It goes from the cabin bulkhead about 3' back in the cockpit right to the edge of the forward most hatch. We'll see how it holds up. It has some synthetic rug fiber on top of a rubber backing and is about 1/2" thick overall. Made for use outdoors on a deck. For the price, if it goes a year I'm happy.
