C-Map NT+ Chart resolution question

I have a Raymarine RL80CRC Plus chartplotter on the boat I just purchased. It uses C-Map NT+ cards for the charts. The current card that is in there (haven't checked the number yet) works great for low resolution use and covers a lot of area, but it does not provide nearly the resolution that my paper charts do for locating rocks in bays etc while anchoring.

If I zoom in on the chart, it goes blank after I zoom in past a certain scale. Do I need to buy a different card to get the higher resolution? Looking at the sites that sell C-Map NT+ cards, it looks like you can get Local, wide and super wide cards, with an increasing cost. They claim the resolution is the same on all the charts though.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get higher resolution on these charts?

Give us the number on the CT chart chip. It should have good resolution. Often the chart plotter can be set for the level--and I suspect that is what is the issue in your case. In fact it may be possible that the plotter is set on the base map, rather than the chip. I don't have that specific plotter, but there are a number on this site who do, and can give you the proper menu settings for the detail.

Generally the larger area chart is the better buy. Many of the new plotters have built in detailed charts on a SSD or hard drive.
 
Not all chart plotters take advantage of all detail levels offered by the chart manufacturer. The RL80CRC has no charts built into the unit, and it may not support newer versions of C-Map charts (NT+ or above).

You may want to see what software version your unit has, there may be an update available that will improve chart use.
 
We have a JRC plotter that uses C-Map NT+ and there are times it will show a blank screen with the message: "no data at this resolution." Quite by chance, I found that if I zoomed in/out some more, lo and behold, there would be good data. The C-Map chips have never failed to produce very detailed displays. The accuracy is surprising, given the fact that those chips are based on USGS data. And, by the way, that message appears at the most inappropriate times.

So, I guess that what I'm saying is the data are there, just find out how to get there. For the JRC, it was just zooming in some more. For a Raytheon, try Raymarine tech serv, after you hit the "range in" button a couple of more times.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll try the zoom thing next time I am out on the water. I'll also grab the c-card number. Is there anyone else with the same chart plotter I have? I'd love to know if you have gotten high resolution mapping to work.

Just took a look at the chip. It is M-NA-C701 22. I also tried the zoom thing as suggested. That was the trick - Thanks Boris. I see now that when I am in a region that has high res maps, it shows up first as just an outline with no map details. The whole display is blank except for an outline. If I zoom in further, then I get a high res map! That is great. So all the anchorages and marinas etc are in high res. Perfect.
