I just spoke with Roger. He and PJ have had to evacuate their home due to the fire raging in Santa Barbara County. He wanted everyone to that they are alright and taking refuge in their motorhome at Lake Cachuma. They seem to be in good spirits considering the circumstance and we're wishing them the best.
The fire started yesterday evening, has engulfed 2500 acres and destroyed over 100 homes. Over 500 firefighters are trying to contain the blaze which has been fueled by wind gusts up to 70 mph.
 
It's a day later, have heard many homes burned. Do hope Roger and family (including C-Hawk) are OK.

Spoke with Roger again this morning. He and PJ are still in good spirits. It looks like firefighters have some degree of containment in the area of their home.
Fires just broke out in my neighboring city of Yorba Linda and headed this way. I know there are some C-Brats in Yorba Linda. I'm hoping they're alright too.
 
All of you down there are in our thoughts. CNN seems to be following the events closely.

I know the feeling. We were less than a mile from the mandatory evacuation line when the Cedar fire hit San Diego. I hope Roger trailed his new boat up there with him. Don't think he has the energy to fight an insurance company like he was forced to fight for that replacement boat from C-Dory. :sad

Don't forget to buy new air filters for your vehicles. Most places around here sold out in two or three days....

We're OK!

Just got back to the house- luckily for us the fire stayed north west of usby a (very) few miles.

On Thursday, we went up to Live Oak Campground with our motorhome group for the weekend getaway. Thursday night we could see the glow of the fire from the campground.
Early Friday morning we were awakened and told we needed to evacuate the campground. Several in our group had brought their horses for the weekend. We had to return the horses to their respective homes and the group regathered at Lake Cachuma.
If I had known we would wind up at the lake, I would have brought the boat. The boat is down at Channel Islands Harbor and out of harms way.

We have a friend that has a home in the fire area--- luckily for them the fire jumped their house and burned their neighbors. Over 200 homes lost in the Tea Fire of Santa Barbara, no lives lost due to the fire.
I hear that some of the other areas around Los Angeles was not so lucky- lives were lost.
 
Great to hear, Roger - glad you guys escaped with nothing more than some inconvenience.
 
Roger, thanks for checking in and letting us know that your home survived it. Hopefully all the other C-Brats in harm's way have no damage as well.

This C-Brat site really brings more personal meaning to us when we watch the news as we all now have friends that find themselves in paths of Hurricaines, Tornados, Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, Wars, (our current military personnel) etc.

Roger - so glad to hear that things are OK. We were worrying for you as we watched the TV news. See you at the SBS?
 
Glad to hear you folks made through this unsaved. Hundreds of other families are not so lucky. Miraculously, I have not heard of any loss of life through all of this. Let's hope that doesn't change.
I spent yesterday watching the situation and making preparations to evacuate. Lucky had to work from 0700 yesterday to 0400 today because others couldn't get to work. Roads were gridlocked. Cars were abandoned as people fled on foot to try to escape smoke and heat.
We went from blue skies to choking smoke in a matter of 30 minutes.
If you folks can find it your hearts, please give to the American Red Cross. They're a top notch outfit as least as far as my dealings with them have proven.
