C-Brat Site Back Online - Some Data Loss

Thanks to an incredibly incompetent hosting provider, the site was down for the last 36 hours.

The relatively short version - there was a hardware failure, and they were ill-equipped to handle the server rebuild and/or data restore.

The rebuild/restore process took them close to 24 hours - unexcusable. A server build should take 30 minutes, and data restores should be complete within a few hours.

Add to that, once they did complete the restore, it was a nasty mish-mash of data. Some data didn't get restored at all, and the database was restored from a different backup date than the underlying files, resulting in a massive mess for your's truly.

Since the hosting provider screwed the pooch on their restore, I had to take matters into my own hands and restore from my local backups. I run backups nightly, but the latest good copy I had was from 2/15 at midnight - the C-Brat server has been dead every night since then during the scheduled backup process.

So the short version - everything is gone that was added to the site after 2/14. Pictures, posts, etc. I've also not spent much time double-checking everything, so please followup here if you notice something that is no longer working.

Although I don't post or comment alot, I really missed the site. I do pervue what's going on at least daily, and was at quite a loss to not see my favorite site. Thank you much again, Bill. I'm sure there were a lot of us that missed the goings on. Ron

This was one of the worst weeks I've had in some time! Honey Dog died, our computer at home died, then the C-Brat site died!.....They say things happen in "3's".....so hopefully that is the end of a stressful period of time!

(The computer diagnosis.....in layman's terms.....the hard drive blew up.... per the computer guy in town, he said that it sounded like a "Mariachi Band". So now we have a new and improved computer.)

Bill, thanks for " Nerding Up" when we need you the most. I almost feel bad catching fish in Pee Wee while your slaving over the computer, almost.

Jon

Bill,
Thanks for all you do to keep our site operating. C-Brats is a valuable tool and a special entertainment.

Thanks for your hard work and diligence. And for the explanation on what happened, I was going into withdrawals also, had to go out and work on my boat more to try and blank it from my mind... I know I've been diliquent on backups for a long time, you get complacent when things are working so well, then it happens, wishing and hoping you could simply set the clock back.

Bill, Thanks for all the time and effort you've put into this website... While the site was down, I got my C Dory fix by using Google Images and day dreaming looking at the pics. Man, I need to get out on the water! Weather is still fresh here in the DC area.

This outage showed me how much I depend on my daily "fix" of C-Brats :cry. Getting it back reminds me to thank, deeply, Bill and Mike for all they do to keep this site up :love :hug2 .

Theres gotta be some way we can say thank you to you guys.

Any suggestions Brats? How can we show them how much we appreciate what they do for us??

Sounds like a good question to me.

You do a helluva job Bill, your nerd prowess brings a lot of good times to many people :)

Reminds me to not trust my ISP...

Thanks for all the work. When I saw SQL errors one night, I suspected
this wasn't going to be a problem easily solved by the ISP.

Thanks,

Mike

I was about to cancel my membership and ask for a refund of the dues I've paid.
The truth be known, I've been working so many hours, I didn't even notice.
Thanks to you & Mike for keeping every running.

Bill, thanks for all the hard work. All of us missed the site while it was down and really appreciate what you do. It's worth every penny!

And lots more!! :wink
