C-25 Autopilot

I'm starting the installation of a Raytheon ST6001 autopilot on a C-25. Rather than reinventing the wheel, has anybody been through this and are they willing to post pictures?

I would like their opinions on where they located the pump, how they routed the (stiff) nylon lines, and how they bled the system. Location of the fluxgate and control head would also be helpful.

I located some aircraft nylon hydraulic tubing which is not as stiff. Any comments on using alternate tubing? Anyone converted to standard AN hoses? Any other comments?

Our autopilot is an 8001 series which should be similar to yours except for a larger display. The installation on ours was done by EQ Marine, so I have little help to offer other than pictures that show the pump mount, compass sensor location, and slave unit installation. I will email those pictures now.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of further assistance. Make sure you mount the compass sensor away from the refrigerator or you'll get too many degrees of deviation.

I have the same unit installed on Sea Angel. The overall configuration is in the pix group. The Auto Pilot stuff is not featured, though you may see where the compass display is located to the right of the Garmin 6000C at the helm.

The Gyro FluxGate Compass in the helm seat 'foot locker ', storage area. I keep the cleaning stuff & extra hydrolic steering fluid, etc there [all non-magnetic junk stuff]. The compass is active whenever any of the battery switches are on. I think I would prefer to be able to disable this with pulling a fuse or breaker for any long time on the hook.

The CPU Controller is under the sink on the bukhead beside the refrig abt 3/4 way up from the bildge and near the door. The pump is almost under the backside of the 115vac outlet box to the refrig. The lines run directly behind the refrig. under the helm shelf and to the rear of the 'wheel'.

The location of the pump does not interfer with any operation, in noise or heading display. As to the hydrolic lines, I don't know what the installer used, except that it is Mil Spec. and stiff.

If I can get to he boat in the next week or 2, I will try to take some detailed pix of the installation and post them. I did not do the work. A local co. named VA. Electronic Systems in VA Beach did the work for me. They also installed the 4kw RADAR & C80 GPS/Chart Plotter.
