C 22 towing behind slide in camper

We are eagerly anticipating our first C22 cruiser, the JUDY LYNN. A concern has arisen about towing with our slide in camper on the truck. The truck is a Ford F350 super duty TD with an 8 foot bed and a factory receiver. We carry a 9.5 S-S camper which extends over the factory receiver by at least 1.5 foot. The C22's we have looked at have very little "free" space in the tongue. We were hoping that someone out there has advice on how to best deal with this issue.

This is our first post and we look forward to many years of enjoyment with our new friends the C-Brats. Come to think of it---we're C-Brats now so I guess we're family! :D :D

I have an extension I bought at Mobile Trailer Supply that I think is rated to 5000 lbs. It offers about 16 inches extra length so might work for you. I would ask the people at Mobile Trailer about weight ratings. You can try mine if you are interested. It was for a setup I no longer have. Another of my collection of parts.

We presently tow our 22' with a Chevy 1 ton duramax duely. Can't hardly tell its back there. In the future planning on a 10.5 ft camper. Figure we will need either a 18" or 24" extension. You shouldn't have any problems with up to a 18" extension. I have used a 18" extension on my previous pickup with factory hitch. It was a 3/4 ton chevy crew cab. I was well within hitch rating. You also need to check the combination camper and boat tongue weight to see if its with in your pick up weight rating.

With a 18" extenion your identical with camper on to no extension and just your truck, so if you have enough free space without camper should be fine with a 18" or maybe even the 16" that Tom has.

I have an f-350 and a Lance 1130 camper (12ft). I had to upgrade to a class 5 hitch 2 1/2" and have a 4' extension with safety chains. It has a tongue rating of 750 lbs and 14,000 lb tow capacity. Have towed the Hammerhead from Sacramento to Bodega Bay and Lake Tahoe Many times without any problems.

Al- An extension as Tom stated would work or call your trailer manufacture and buy a longer tongue arm. Most if not all are bolted and with a little labor can be made longer. My Father was in the same predicament and did this. This may be the most cost effective way to deal with it.
