Many have asked about my latest project... It is not a C-Dory..so if that bothers you... read no further.

But, if you are one of many who have attended gatherings and cruises with me over the past 18 months...my project boat is about complete.

I have dropped a few photos in the FREEBYRD photo album... or go here.

And..if ya want a bit more info... drop me a note, pm, email..or drop by my site at the links below.

Enjoyed seeing some of you up here on this trip...and I'll be back up soon.

brydman,
the boat looks great but not sure exactly what modifications you made vs: the manufacturer. at what price are you now offering this boat? will you take children in on trade?
pat

I will take your Dr. child.....the one with student loans all paid off . Grin

The boat came with zero interior...so, other than the gunnels, side walls, and top.... she is a custom build. The same guy who built the cabinet work in my other boat and works with other C-Brats in the Oak Harbor area did the work. He is great. Still all the AC and DC wiring and plumbing yet to do...but, the main cabin area has been built.

Final price is still up in the air a bit... but she should come in just about what the standard Rosborough sedan hull would...but, she is custom.

ok, you drive a hard bargain, you get my dr. son and his med loans. now, when can i pick up my boat?
from the pictures the fit and trim look outstanding, nice job.
looks like linda and i won't be able to stop in nashville/old hickory lake until august. have several realtors feeding us listings. will keep you informed. anything comes up regarding a boating get together keep us in the loop. heading south today, will have a laid back fourth at the campbell palatial lake home estate!
if you're in the area stop by for a cold one.
you are the man!

To me, a couple of the most positive changes are moving the head out of the v-berth area, and a webasto forced air furnace. This should be a great boat.

Byrdman,

You changed the big negative I saw on your boat in Nashville a couple of years ago. Nice change. Are there any plans to put some glass in the head area so you can see through it when under way?

Byrdman, I heard Rosborough has stopped making the 246 hulls, at least until the recession is over. Is that true? How will it affect your ability to deliver boats after this one?

How much fuel tankage could you reasonably add to a custom 246?

Warren

Hey Tom!! Man...it does not seem like it has been 2 years. Time flies and I hope you can make it again soon with a bit more time to allow us to enjoy the area a bit and allow you to reflect on your earlier Nashville years. I truly enjoyed your visit.

Yes, we can cut in window on the head. I have not done that on this particular boat, as some want the total privacy of the solid wall.... and I can not "un-cut" the window ....or...guess what size some folks will want. Another neat thing about a custom boat.. owners call.

We should have most of the system/core power work completed on this boat and ready to re-install the furniture by around 1st part of August.

Warren, Just got a follow on email from Bob Rosborough and they are talking about starting production back up and building new hulls. To get the plant shifted from the commercial boats they have been building to the RF-246 boats takes a week or two...so I am not sure how long until the new hulls will be ready, but I would guess in about 8 -10 weeks.

This particular hull is a custom job and at this time, Bob Rosborough has no plans to build it as we needed to test the market a bit and see if this hull sells. Then, if it is accepted in the industry, I feel sure some forms will come out. There have just been so many folks express the desire for this layout, which is why myself and Les have given it a shot. Time will and market will tell.

This hull should be back in the Nashville area around mid to late August if we do not pick up a contract while she is in Oak Harbor. If contracted up there, who knows where she will end up. She is a nice layout and give owners many, many storage options.

Thanks for the interest.

Here are a few "quick" photos made during production and layout. Some things are going to be different, but, we were at a point we could make some pics prior to taking the interior apart to cut the floor hatches and do the under floor work needed. Table will be lowered about 2" for a better eating/working height and some drawers installed....

I have made a word file with some talking points on it. For those interested just send me a note and any other questions to the below email address:

patrick@heartland246.com

Will also be making some changes on my web site as to include these photos and more...but...my web guy is out of pocket for the 4th of July weekend.. Maybe he and I can get together on my next trip to the NW.

Did you guys build the custom interior using Decraguard?

No sir. The panels are all cabinet grade 3/4" ply with a laminate vacuum-bagged onto it, all trimmed in mahogany.

The laminate allows for a surface that can be cleaned easily and is more durable than the Decraguard.

guys the boat looks great. Nice job.
