Bulkhead removal on older 16

Just reading the posts about the 16 Angler bulkhead trim job. I took out the port side bulkhead on GYPSY and it really made a big difference. Not only does it appear more spacious, it affords much greater access to the berth, at the same time giving Brenda a foward facing ride. She stretches her legs out into the berth, or curls them, and air circulation improved greatly. When I get Byrdman back from the Bahama run :smiled , we are going to learn "Putting Pictures On The Brat Site, 101" and ya'll can have a look. I kept the dash in tact by adding a support on the port bulkhead, through-bolted from the outside and it is just as strong as ever. Can't wait till next January...it is Seattle Boat Show year!!!

Hey Rob!
I don't get 'round the Brat site very often. Brenda visits more than I do. I haven't taken the time to learn the ropes of pictures and putting them where I want. We spend lots of time on Gypsy year round and that is why I haven't learned. Since we got her jan. 3, 2006 we have logged 1312 hours and I don't absorb "computer lernin'" under way. Thanks for the pic of the boat in our dock. That was before the name change! Pat (Byrdman) will be back this week and he can get me squared away; thanks for the support! C-PEARL is now right down the lake so we are lookin foward to some fun this summer and would love to see ya'll on Old Hickory and the Cumberland River. Good to hear from ya'll!!

Mike,

I'd love to see pics of the bulkhead modification when you get the album figured out. I'm thinking about doing it on Tortuga. I especially like the prospect of the forward facing seat (now I keep the dinette down as a port settee so I can fit all the kids.

Mike.

I too, am very interested in the pics of the interior mod. I have often thought of making a U shaped cut from the opening just below the snaps that hold the cushion on. Cut over to port and leave a few inches along the port side and down back across the top of the wood seat frame to the center isle. I am wondering if this would be enough of a rigid brace to support the port side dash area?
