I will be heading up to the Broughtons from the end of June until the end of September if anyone would like to join me.
Or if you will be in the area I usually have the VHF on 16 so you could give "Raven Dancer" a call.
I plan on trailering up from Vancouver WA and launching at Alder Bay or Port Mcneill BC not sure which place I will use yet.
This will be my 14th summer so if you just need advise on must see's give me a shout.
Happy summer boating.

Raven Dancer. :peace:

Saw Raven Dancer at Pierre's in Echo Bay last week, but did not realize you were a Brat. We were staying at the Paddler's Inn one cove east, for a week of paddling and hanging out.

Our first time in the Broughtons. We'll be back.

I'm thinking about hauling Tranquilo up to Campbell River next year. As much as I enjoyed the Straits of Georgia this year, skipping the experience doesn't sound bad. Does anyone know the cost of taking a C25 across on the ferry from Vancouver? Is it much of a hassle? The Broughtons sound like a great place to visit and fish.

You have 3 ferry choices (in Summer).
Anacortes to Sidney, Port Angeles to Victoria, Tsawassen to Nanaimo.

The rates vary but all are available on line.

We have done Tsawassen to Nanaimo twice and the BC ferry is very easy to load/disembark. Also the access from the Nanaimo ferry terminal to the main Vancouver Island highway is excellent. (Just don't follow your GPS or you will end up downtown which is also OK but "interesting" with a big trailer.

Roger (Dreamer) has done the Port Angeles run a number of times.

There is theoretically a 4th choice from Horseshoe bay to Nanaimo but you have to drive through Vancouver which is mind expanding.

If you are going to the Broughtons, the road after Campbell River goes though the mountains but it is very driveable and you can launch at Telegraph Cove, Port McNeil or Port Hardy.

I bit more money spent on fuel and ferry fares but guarantees you much more time "on site"

That's my 1c worth. (Cheaper now I'm retired  )

We have done all of the various ferry options from Washington State to Vancouver Island. I believe they were all around $150.00 one way.

We kept our 25 in Anacortes, so we took the Anacortes to Sidney ferry for several years. It is a more scenic route through the San Juans, but smaller than the B.C. ferries out of Tsawassen. I would really avoid trying Horseshoe Bay out of Vancouver. You have to drive all the way through downtown Vancouver. The streets are narrow and there are many lights. It's an experience I only tried one time with the 25. It is generally easy to get on and off of all of the ferries. If you trailer with your outboard down, I would lift it up before entry and exit. The ramps can be steep enough to drag a skeg.

Our usual schedule for the Broughtons was to take the early ferry out of Anacortes, get groceries in Nanaimo, stop for the night in Campbell River and drive to Port McNeil the second day. I think you could do it all in one long day, but it wasn't worth it to us.

We have launched in Telegraph Cove, but preferred to go to Port McNeil. There is secure storage for your car and trailer in Port McNeil.

Brats,

We are now in the Broughton's! We arrived last evening at Port Harvey Resort after waiting out the Johnstone Strait, where gale warnings and strong wind warnings have been up for weeks.

Any Brats in the area are welcome to stop by our boat for a visit. We are leaving Port Harvey today, but will be in the
Broughton area for a few weeks.
