Brats in the Broughtons 2018

Just wondering if there are any C-BRATS heading up to the Broughtons this summer? There has been some chatter about Desolation, and Launching in Campbell River. I thinking more like Telegraph Cove to Port Hardy and NE into the islands. I talked to the folks at Port Harvey today and they are open and preparing for a big weekend over Canada Day. Anyone looking that direction yet?

It would be a good year to experience Pierre'S at Echo Bay. They have just put it up for sale and who knows what next year may bring. Any Brats with 1.4m us could snap it up!

We will be in the broughton's for 2-3 weeks in August. Heading to bella Bella around July 20 first for a couple of weeks and then back down to the broughton's.

I'm thinking of being at Port Harvey for Canada Day. Watch for SleepyC or call on VHF 16.

Pierre's, WOW, what a bargain. And consider the US vs CDN $$ differential.

That is a lot of dough to buy a very demanding job. Pierre has the right personality. Ditto his spouse. Very big shoes to fill. Both pairs.

We (Sam n Leo) will be in the area for little over a week in early to mid Aug. Last year we were in the area and did a bit of touring around. This year we will be staying in Telegraph Cove and taking it easy--some fishing and shorter trips.

Be sure and go across to Alert Bay, go to the right from any landing, and go to Duchesses Bannock restaurant. MMMmmmm Good.

Thanks for the tip Harvey. I just checked the map. Last year when we visited Alert Bay we walked down that way as far as the burial grounds. Looks like we should have walked just a little further. We'll do that this year.

It would nice to pop back into Sointula as well, but it's actually a fair hike there from the wharf to 'downtown'. Might be a hard sell for the family.

Would also be nice to pop over to Echo Bay for one of the big dinners, but I don't think we'll get that far. Last year we stayed a couple of nights there in one of their cabin suites and really enjoyed it. A great deal for anyone wanting to get out of the boat for the night.

Daydream is planning to do the Broughtons in mid-late August with Luna-C and another boat. We will cruise up and back. After last year's trip of 5428 miles on the boat, this seems like a piece of cake, and we have the time.

A couple days back, I fueled at Lagoon Cove. New owners there and they are trying to earn a place with the long time, seasonal visitors. James, the dock hand and Dan one of the owners told me they had a C-Dory in the night before, a blue strip. They even had the boat name in their fuel log -- Nomad. Their destination was unknown, and they admitted to just wandering. So Martin, they are using the boat.

I tried several calls on the radio, 16 & 68, but no response. I had been within vhf range for at least a day. Made me think about doing a general "Any C-Dory" or C-BRAT call on a daily schedule (like 08, noon to 1300, and say 1700). You never know, maybe a great boat and Brat crew are anchored in the next cove over.

In Sointula, you don't have to walk to town, they have loaner bikes at the marina. Didn't see any with training wheels, which I thought I might need, but some had baskets.

Also, at the marina, at the little red barn, they have pretty decnt fish and chips.

Enjoy.

Currently at Port Harvey on East Cracroft Island. Excellent wifi here. Phone service IF you have a Canadian Telus connection, (Verizon DOES NOT cooperate with Telus), but the food is great here and so are the people. There is good service in the Alert Bay area. They are on Rogers up there, and Verizon does have a sharing agreement with them.

The Mike Buttle affair a couple hundred yards across the water has been quiet all week, (probably off for the holiday), but the docks are full here. Great thing about our C-Dorys is you don't need a reservation. George and Gail are very accommodating.

Hope to run into some Brats along the way. Martin, if you have any way of contacting the new Nomad folks, have them give me a call on 16 -- SleepyC.

And I am going to try to call "Any C-Dory" at 0800, 1300, and 1800 as I wander for a bit.

Whaaaa :cry :cry :cry

Some people have all of the fun. 1st Mate's surgeries will keep us off
of the water this summer, but look out next year. :wink
