Well, now that you mention it, the average weight of a 22, boat motor and trailer, is about 3500 lbs. and the new Cherokee (not the Grand Cherokee) is rated at only a 2000 lb. tow capacity with the 4 cyl, but 4500 with the six.
I have a hemi, its rated at over 7,000lbs tow capacity and we've been towing with it for about a year and a half with no problems at all. It actually is a much more comfortable tow than the 3/4 ton. Our Cherokee is a 2005 Hemi, and I always assumed the CD to be closer to 4500lbs fully loaded, I think sometimes I even round up to assume 5k, really.
I'd not want to tow it with anything smaller (although I know people have) but my cherokee handles it very very well. i've never once felt like i was being pushed around by the boat or out of control at any speed. just this recent brake chatter had to be fixed.
