Here is a short clip about boats getting panic stricken people off the island of Manhatten after the World Trade Center attack. I had never seen this reported before.

I loved this story and posted it once earlier. It's worth posting again and again as it's an inspiring story.

500,000 in 9 hours? wow

Someplace there should be a memorial to the boatmen for their service that day. Great story any time it comes up.

I had just taken delivery of a 2000 Cabo 35 Flybridge in May of 2001. I lived in Massapequa, NY (Long Island) about 30 nautical miles from the Statue of Liberty. As soon as the second plane hit, my friend and I headed that way (about 1 1/2 hours at 30 knots, it was a gorgeous day and I was running at 95% to get there). We made it as far as about 2 miles from the Varranzano Bridge (about 2 miles from the World Trade Center) at about 11 AM. We were willing to help evacuate, but the Coast Guard wouldn't allow is under the bridge. We hung out until about 2 PM and headed home, the entire time watching the fallout and the F-16's.
