Didn't get to use boat this season,may not use it next season ,until wife quits working. Added startron to both tanks.Will gas stay good or do I have to empty 2 full tanks? Just wondering if additive will keep gas okay,any other additives or just drain them?

If gasohol, I would drain it or go boating and fishing. I hate draining gas tanks
 
For 24 months I wouldn't keep ethanol gas in there. That's asking for trouble. Sorry you haven't been able to use the boat.
 
Marine "Stabil says it will keep gas for 1 year.

I use Star Tron and Marine (Blue) Stabil, but had to go looking.

They might say it, but I don't think I would push it past one year. I have had my boat sit for 8 months one time. It did start and run OK, but I had forgotten half of everything I knew :oops: Guess maybe I should take to drinking Stabil and StarTron too, if I'm going to let it sit that long again. :roll: :wink:

I am using some diluted, 3 year old non ethanol gas, treated with both Startron and Stabil in my 140 Suzuki on the Caracal. Runs fine. I have about 50% older fuel and 50% last years fuel. Not my first choice. But no adverse affects so far.

I need to use the boat more, or have a smaller fuel tank?

In the carbureted Honda on the C Dory, I try and use fuel less than one year old and non ethanol fuel, treated with Stabil and Startron.
 
Its not your tanks that are going to be the real problem. You need to drain you Carbs , if you have carbs. I would drain the whole fuel system even with fuel injection if its going to be two years. Run it dry, drain the filter and the lines.
 
If your motors are fuel injected you may be good to go. If carburetor's You will have problems. My 135 Hondas start within 2 seconds after a year of lay-up, but their fuel injected.
 
Thanks for replys,guess I know that draining the tanks would be best choice.But 2 full tanks of non ethanol gas was hoping to get lucky,last time I filled up was the good gas.Seems like a lot of work siphoning 5 gal at a time till both are empty.But preventing problems is best answer.Whats a good siphoning system? With only weekends for boating,until wife is freed up and 2.5 or 5.5 hrs to Cayuga or Erie guess I will drain them thanks.
 
I would not drain the tanks. Gas does not go bad in large amounts. Its the small amounts in carbs and injectors that gum up the works. A good inline racon fuel filter and water separator is going to take care of any problems. And if the gas does go bad you can drain it in two years. My dad uses aviation gas in this dinghy and mowers and other small motors because it will not go bad.
 
If I have gas which is older and is questionable, or in the C Dory if I I am not going to use the boat for a year, I pump the gas out of the tanks.

I have a rig, with a Racer filter a 35 gallon per hour fuel pump with long leads which clips to the batteries. I keep the pump (which is ignition protected) and the racor out of the boat. Easiest way to pump out is to either disconnect at the motor, or most Racor filters have two inlets and two outlets. I have a hose, I clamp on the second inlet, and pull directly from the tank. The fuel pumps are about $50. A lot easier than siphon.

If I am not using a carburetor engine for a month, I drain the carburetor, I run the fuel injected motor every 2 months, and have never had an issue there.
 
Thanks for replys,with a 2008 Yamaha 150 hp ,how do you tell if its carbs or fuel injected. Will taking the shroud off enable you to see carbs? Guess I should know but don't yet. I never worked on it so have no clue thanks.
