Boat Sales

Today I got to see some interesting statistics for new boats registered in California. Dismal, but thought I'd pass them on....

2005 2006 2007 2008 2009
15810 14125 10877 5488 3628 New Boats Registered
------ ----30 ----27 ----19 ----9 New C-Dorys Registered

Interesting, but, predictable numbers for those tracking the industry.
I guess we hang our hats on the our boats are now a larger % of the total new sales market!!

Other bright spots... is some of our boat investments are better now than some of our stock investments made over the past 3-5 years.

Some of our boat investments have held their value better than some or our property investments over the past 3-5 years.

Shoot... we did good by buying our boats!!! and...they are a lot more fun!!!

Don't vote, buy a boat! Hummmm

Just kidding about the not voting part... the jingle just popped into my head.

That 9 new boats sold in 2009...Is that in California alone ? or the whole USA ? If that is the case....I don't blame the company for shutting down production....

That's terrible....I was talking to a marine surveyor last night and he told me that business has really picked up...much stronger used boat sales this year over last year... he is busy.....He owns a C-Dory himself...

There is an up side for some people to this situation.

Obviously, less boat sales is not good for the boat dealers, or boat builders.

But,

If you are a boat buyer, prices are down.

If you are renting a slip, they are more available, and rents may be lower

If you are using a ramp, there is less congestion.

How things look is always based on where you are looking from.:wink

Living in Redding, California, I get to see a great deal of traffic pass up and down I-5, the main North-South artery on the West Coast.

We used to see 18-wheelers full of new boats and trailers going up and down the freeway all the time.

This past year or so, I've seen exactly two loads, totaling maybe a dozen boats!

Pretty sad....

Any idea if you order a C-Dory, the estimated delivery time to the dealer and rigging time? Will a TomCat take longer than CD-22?

My understanding is that at this point you are looking at September or October before you could get an ordered boat. A Tomcat may take longer depending on what the backlog of them may be.

Thanks Matt

I would find it difficult to sell boats if the dealer did not have any in-stock and customers needed to place order

Is this correct or will some dealers have boats in their showrooms?
