Boat Covers

I've used RV/car covers to cover my motorhome, truck camper, and my airplane. For the plane I bought three car covers (same material, just smaller). One was stretched over one wing and the nose. The second covered the second wing and fuselage. A third smaller cover went over the tail.
An RV cover closely matched to the length of your boat (and width if possible) will easily cover it. There are many after-market grommets and attachment devices for tarps that will allow you to attach to it where ever you need to and stretch it to shape. You can also trim excess material off the cover.
King Marine (Seattle, WA) is making a custom cover for my 22 as I write this. At over $1300 for the boat alone (not including engine bonnets), it is on the spindly side of protection. An RV cover will probably be $200-$300. Add to that some attachment hardware and bungee cords and you will have a nice affordable solution.
If you keep the boat at home an RV cover should work nicely. It won't be as nice for a boat stored in the water because of the loose fit and extra cloth. Check the size of car covers at Wal-Mart. The brand I used had 5 or 6 sizes and they went out to 20+ feet in length. The largest was well under $100.

Just went to the Wal-Mart site to look at RV covers. Can you tell me what the dimensions refer to? For instance, does 24x28 mean 24' from the bottom of one side to the other and 28' long? Thanks.

We're trying to figure out just how we can cover C-Cakes beside the house. I've been planning (operative word
lanning, not execution :? ) to build a covered structure that would match the house. Now I'm looking at quicker and maybe cheaper ways to do it. A cover that lays on the boat is not my first choice. Has anyone bought or built one of those metal framed carports? Some have fabric tops, others are metal but look like they might be just the thing. I have found several suppliers on-line but would appreciate anybodys recommendations or experience.

The canvas covered and metal framed portable garage that most folks use around here is from Costco: Properly anchored and guy wired, they will take 30+ mph winds pretty easily.
One I had at Lake Amador for my CD-22 held up (according to a local, I was in the Bay Area) up to close to 50-60 mph, then folded up and ripped apart like a tornado hit it. Bent 2" steel tube frames like macaroni!
I don't see them listed on the Costco site, maybe they've been discontinued? You might check at your local retail store. The best part was the ~$175 price tag!
