Bimini Top

Anyone have a source for a top made for the 22 cruiser, I want a top that is free standing, not low and hooked to the back of the cabin.

We had a bimini that was free standing on a sail boat and finally added a filler for when it rained. That bimini tied to the aft cabin is really nice. Of course I don't know if it rains in Mississippi, but I suspect it does.

Its the height,at the back of the cabin,a friend of ours has a 25 and my head hits it. Plus I would like the breeze. Just thought someone might make one for the dory.

Probably your best bet is to have a local guy custom make one for you. That's what we did and are very happy after three years with it. Ours is free-standing, has 6' 8" headroom and has both a filler and sides. but, of course, that could come later if you like. Pics in our album, page one.

bburgin,

Look on eBay. Find one to fit your height and width needs. Also look for stainless steel tubes and fittings. I have bought Bimini's for CD 22 and TomCat with good results. They are not hard to install yourself. Cost should be under $400.

One issue to watch out for is whether any given boat has a cockpit floor. I was standing in the CD22 at the SBS last night (full molded floor) and was surprised how much higher it felt than my 2002 where I'm standing on the hull bottom. Any canvas is going to have to bump up as well to accomodate.

Sorry. Misread topic. Thought it was "bikini top". However some of the posts above are hilarious in that context.
