Bimini top install questions

I bought a used bimini top on ebay that came from a C-dory that was destroyed by a tree. Painful image to think about! The top connects to the cabin with awning track. I don't have any pictures to see how it was set up on the original boat. I was wondering if someone has mounting instructions for this set up. What should be installed first, the awning to the cabin or the frames? Also is there a general consensus as to whether side or top of the gunnel mount is better?
