best PNW anchor

For those of you in the pacific northwest, what is the anchor of choice? I won't be using mine except for the rare occasion. I want to have it set on the pulpit on the bow (rather than a fortress type disassembled).

I trailer often, and don't want to have a good mix of anchor weight, its ability to hold, and it not banging around all over the place or getting in my way when I'm moving the boat around.
 
Not an expert, but the West Marine Bruce knock-offs seem to be very popular here - it is what we have, and seems to work great in most of the circumstances that we find here.

I would have to vote for the Delta Fast-Set. We had a 35# on the Krogen and have a 22# on the TomCat. Both work flawlessly. As it says, fast set, resets in a current change, likes most bottoms. In addition, it doesn't hang as low as the Bruce and consequently doesn't catch on the trailer when launching the TC-255.
 
We are in the early stages of planning for our anchor/windlass setup also.
We are really trying to make an informed decision after hearing/watching an incident that happened yesterday near Blake Island. A sailboat drug anchor and the family came back from the island to find their boat gone. 2 good samaritan boats went to look for the sailboat and found it down south of Blake.
We want to make sure we are not that family :roll: !!
 
On my 22 cruiser I use a 17.5 lb Bruce(genuine) with 30 ft of 1/4 in chain and 300 ft of 7/16 line on the bow and a 13 lb Danforth with 25 ft of 3/16 ths chain and 300 ft of 7/16th line.

The Bruce works in all bottoms except soft mud where the Danforth excels.

The Bruce sets fast on a two to one scope and holds well. It will reset on a wind shift. For holding overnight or leaving the boat I use 4 or 5 to 1 scope. For very strong winds I use 7 to 1 or more scope(length of anchor rode to depth of water under the boat).

This gear has been on my boat since new in 1991 and has worked well from the Puget sound to Alaska.

I understand that the cheap China copies have made it difficult for Bruce to continue to build the smaller Bruce anchors.

Since the Bruce is a solid forged steel item, a used genuine Bruce should work just fine. Check any used marine gear stores in your area. A genuine Bruce would even be worth re-galvanizing.

The China copies may work just as well. I have no personal experience with a Bruce copy, but Pat says they work fine.
