best outboard to buy to replace a honda 135????

Sorry to hear you are still struggling with this. Tuff decision for sure. I haven't heard much about Yamaha here, but Tom just did a pretty good review. I'm not sure what service availability you have on the island, but in general, the service availability for Yamaha is much easier to tap into than Honda. ( I did not know that when I bought my boat, it just came with Yami's and It was Jim's 34th boat over his lifetime. He was getting it ready to fish his way to Alaska.) I think he knew what he was doing when he picked out every device on the boat.

If you have Yamaha service available, I'd sure consider them. If not, how hard is it to get over to EQ Marine and let Les do the work. He will do you right. Matt at Kitsap would too, but that is a long haul. Stay with Honda and you might save some bucks on the change out but go with twins, and you will thank yourself every day you come in to the dock. :lol: :lol:

A few fun facts and opinions. For the ridiculously inflated price of a Honda you can repower with another brand and include the controls . Then you would have new everything . We have a number of low hour Hondas [mostly 150s] in piles in the shop that Honda would not help the owners with.Honda has clearly lost interest in the Marine side of their business,
In my opinion E Tec is beating a very complicated dead horse . 2 strokes are not superior in any way that is useful in day to day boating .They are no longer lighter,they are no more fuel efficient than a 4 stroke, the oil is up to 50 dollars a gallon and letting it run dry is just another nonsensical sales pitch. There have been many problems with the engines and you would have to crazy to let any engine go for 3 years without service . They are so vested in the old technology that they will tell you anything to sell em.
Tohatsu's are great motors and similar to Optimax in ther direct injection . Its still a 2 stroke . I will say they are a pleasure to work with regarding warranty.But they are still a 2 stroke.
The class company in the marine business is Yamaha. Look at the companies that are exclusive Yamaha, their good will is renown .
Suzuki is a very good motor in many cases outperforming all others . Warranty is more difficult to get easily pushed through. But they are a good product overall. They lead the way in many design advances and are frequently copied .

I sell all previously mentioned motors except Mercury and Evinrude . If a customer want one Ill go out of my way to get it for them .
Bottom line , go with what you are comfortable with and can get the best service in your area.

What Matt is saying is true: find a dependable dealer, buy what they're selling and enjoy that. I agree.

Now find a dependable dealer (if you live 1000 miles from Matt.) I will say Honda dealers come and go. I've found a good one in LA and I pray he stays in business as long as the Honda lasts.

BTW, just to be clear, I saw that Paul LaBellarte popped in a question in the middle of this Honda motor thread about getting a new CD he is purchasing checked out near the town of Shelton, WA. I happen to have property in the area and mentioned Kitsap Marina. It really had nothing to do with this thread - besides the fact that Kitsap Marina is a CD boat dealer and does sell motors also.

Carry on... nothing else to read here. :-)
