Best Micro SD card for chart updating

In looking at these Micro SD cards, I am seeing a $50 spread for the same size.

The guy helping me said the only difference in price was the size.

I feel he was wrong.

Can anybody explain the difference in the same size card and which one is best for updating charts in a MFD ?

Thank You

Typically the higher priced cards are from brand names and have higher speeds.

You pay extra for the name (and the advertising) and maybe a replacement warranty (which doesn't mean much if your data gets lost). All memory cards come from a handful of manufacturers anyway due to the infrastructure required to make them.

Higher price cards also are higher speed (e.g. UHS-3). These may be needed for your GoPro recording at 4K. It is not necessary for your chartplotter.

I expect that a class 4 or 6 card would be fine for your chartplotter. The amount of data you would be writing to the card is actually pretty small. If you have an older chartplotter it may only be able to handle 2Gb cards max anyway. Vector chart data is pretty compact. You need to check the plotter manual for the memory card specs.

I've only ever had one fail, and it was a pricier brand name one. I avoid paying more than $10 for a memory card/flash drive.
