Good morning, all.

I am beginning to hatch a plan for summer 2027 to haul myself, my camper, and my Cape Cruiser up north for some PNW exploration. Will you help me noodle through some options?

I basically threw a dart that landed on Brown's Bay Resort, which seems like a good home base for a 4-6 week trip. I envision mainly staying in the RV and day-tripping in the boat, with some overnights as the mood hits. I may leave the boat and RV in storage for a month, and then return to play some more and then haul it all home in early fall.

I have never boated these waters, ergo, any place I go will be new and (presumably) interesting.

I understand that my boat is more-or-less self-containedish, and that I could make an untethered trip (ie, just the boat, with no RV land support). But that's a little rustic for me at this point. I also really really like Vancouver Island, and look forward to land-based exploration of the island.

Where else should I be looking for a marina/RV park combo? Particularly that is easily(ish) reachable by air (flying into Comox seems relatively straightforward and affordable) for visitors. Other than its proximity to Seymour Narrows, Brown's Bay seems like a great option.

Any input greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have stayed at Brown Bay RV park several times for a week each time in our lives 42 foot RV. It is a nice park--you get to see all of the traffic coming thru Seymour Narrows. I did not boat with a C Dory out of there. We had a 14 foot Valco aluminum boat and 25 hp outboard. I have gone by there by boat.

Seymour Narrows is nothing to be tampered with. We saw a 55 foot purse Seiner which had capsized with loss of life because they didn't wait for slack water. The whirlpool is impressive. I took our Cal 46 thru there on a flood time, near high water, and still a whirl pool.

For general cruising we have launched out of Cambell River or Nanaimo for Desolation Sound area. For the Broughtons, (my favorite in that area) we launched out of Telegraph Cove or Port McNeill. All of these towns have nice RV parks. You have to cross the straits, and then most running is protected in the Broughtons. Lots of small camps, featuring dinners different days of the week during season. Echo Bay has a great pig roast and prime rib. Sullivan has a good Sunday Brunch.
