Backup kicker for C-Dory 22 with twin 50hp Yamaha

I've never had twin outboards in the water, so I was envisioning running them onto the same ledge or into the same big log, but it sounds like that rarely happens. Perhaps it's that the object is rarely completely perpendicular to the centerline of the boat, so whatever it is, tends to hit one lower unit (first), it absorbs most of the energy, and thus protects the second one. At any rate, sounds like it is exceedingly rare to take out two, and most redundancy solutions (especially if they are big heavy ones) "should" probably be for things that are more likely to happen.

I have thought about that. On my bozt everything is seperate, but there is always a deadhead waiting to happen.
I some times carry a 4hp for the dink but do not have a way to mount it on the boat.

All good info. Just for fun I thought I'd share this weekends engine issue. We're over at Newcastle Island in Nanaimo gorgeous sunny weekend. A guy comes along to see if we have a can if gas. Turn out he has a single Mercruiser with a known timing belt issue. It breaks every few trips. He has a kicker and fuel tank. Except no gas in it. He is still gonna futz with his timing belt on his own instead of getting a pro to fix it! Nice reliable power not getting looked after.
