Automatic Links

This site change has been thought about for a while...let us know what you think.

The most recent thread where Cape Cruisers are mentioned, once again, has folks replying about an issue that has been beat to death around here.

Greg (Red Fox) and Larry (Nancy H) have set up a site where Cape Cruiser discussions are encouraged, and there are several owners over there now. Again - we're not discouraging the conversations here, chat all you want about them, or any other boat. It's just not the focus of this site, and never will be - we're a C-Dory community.

As of now, any time Cape Cruiser is entered into a message, the name will automatically turn into a link. Anyone clicking on it will be directed to Red Fox's site. This is not being done to encourage folks to leave, but rather to let people interested in Cape Cruiser know there's a site where they are more of a focus.

Since Arima is another boat that gets compared/constrasted to C-Dory around here with relative frequency, I've done the same for their owners' group.

You can see examples of this change in this message - all of the links above were generated automatically.

Bill,

My apologies for ranting about this. I did not know you had made the change until after my post.

Thanks for the free advertising and links to CD RF. It will help direct people to a site where CC's (and any boat) can be discussed without bringing out the 'CD-only' police!! LOL

I am going to edit my post on that thread as the mystery has been resolved.

Cape Cruiser, I have seen a Cape Cruiser at the Cape Cruiser booth at the boat show. Cape Cruiser and boats like Cape Cruiser seem like nice boats. A Cape Cruiser is not for me but a Cape Cruiser might be fine for other people. Cape Cruiser, Cape Cruiser can't we just move on and get over this Cape Cruiser issue.
Hey this is kind of cool.

All you guys have me busting a gut!!! Fred that was a dumpload of humor according to my funny bone...Da Nag, just as funny....couldn't stop chuckling.

Sometimes you just need a good laugh.

Hope all had a safe and wonderful thanksgiving!!! Can't go to bet yet...too stuffed to sleep! :smilep

Best Wishes,

Crazy Frazey

Maybe we can slip this in below the radar of the AUTOMATIC LINK POLICE:

I am going to be different and not let my comment about Cape.Cruiser turn into a link to Red Fox’s site.

:rose Thank you all, but especially the above post :thup :wink Looks like you were wrong that "my site would self-destruct in three months". :xseek :xlol

There will be no "fighting" over on my site because until we get to know ya a little, your post will be screened first. It seems to be working quite well that way. :)

PS: The RedFox will never be sold, to get anything new... just thought I'd add that...

Greg – you are so right. I will have to eat my words. :embarrased I was not aware of the change after the 28th of April of this year on your site. That made a big difference. You have added 24 new member since then (63 members now) and they make up about half of the post on your site. Congratulations. :cigar

But I will still not have an automatic link go to your site when I type Cape
. Cruiser. Nothing personal, just want control of my post.

Have a nice day.
:hug

The way I spell.... this link thingy will have a hard time. Now, about that bayliner link... that was funny....but.... my bayliner 1802 walk-a-round cuddy provided me boo-koo hours of fun and TROUBLE FREE....not a single item on the boat broke of water fun. River trips from Montgomery to the Gulf, weeks of fun in the Chessapeake Bay going out to see Cape Henry and the 3 generations of light houses all on one location... My Mother is a light house freak...and I was for sure going to get her a water view of those light houses.... I think the Cape Henry light house was one of the 1st...if not the 1st light house ...."santioned" by US Congress?? Someone who is informed help me out here.

I love our site.

Bill, is there any way to make the new imbeded links open in a new window rather than simply diverting users to the target site? I hate feeling like I got hijacked while cruising the C-Brat site.

Byrdman...the first lighthouse in the US was Boston Light way back in 1716. It is one of the USCG history items I remember from boot camp. I just wish I could remember something really important!

Hold your shift key down when you click on a link and it will open in a new window.

I know I can shift-click or right-click and "open in new window" (or new tab with some browsers). It's just smoother when a website opens its internal links in the same window and opens external links in a new window. I know it can be done on this site as the link to the factory website on the home page does it. I just don't know how hard it is to do with automatically embedded links. But redirecting without notifying the user is generally considered poor web design netiquette.

Uh...not really.

Truth is, it's a never-ending debate amongst webmasters. Many despise opening any links in a new window. Others see it as you do.

Me - I couldn't care less, but the rest of the site does work as you suggested...external links in a new window. I didn't code any of it that way - it's just the forum software default.

I'm more interested in consistent behaviour, than how the links work. So, I modified the automatic links to work as you suggested.

Thanks for the heads up,

Bill

Thanks for making the change Bill. I meant no offense by my poor netiquette comment. I know you and Mike work hard just keeping this fine site up and running without having to deal with nitpicky details like this.

Thanks again...

One for Da-Nerd..... from Da-Byrd....

What is the outside chance that on the Photos albumn, we could have an alpha roster going cross the top or bottom that would allow us to pick from the 1st letter of someone's photo album.... i.e. F for Foggy Dew...
rather than having to pick a number as a wild guess...and punch forward and backward from there...

Or...it this is not a good idea ..... :idea I will just keep "fishing" for Da-Boats.

And...many thanks for your continued support and help.
