Arima to C-Dory

I'm thinking about selling my Arima 19' hard top and buying a 19' C-Dory. Although the Arima is fisherman friendly the transom area is not, which is one of the reasons I'm looking at C-Dory. My questions are as follows; Is the C-Dory louder when under way because of the single hull, can you hear or feel the water hitting the bottom? What is a maximum cruing speed in 1' waves and 2' waves? Can you mount a kicker next to the main motor without an up/down bracket? Any problems with the computer timed bilge pump.

I have (or have had) both C-Dory and Arima. Both fine boats, but your points are all valid. The CD hull is noisier and won't take the chop as well as your 19 Arima. OTOH the C-Dory has its own advantages. If you want more just PM or email. My current boat is a 22 CD and I fish the Arima whenever the government allows.

Way up in the NW corner - sunny, warm, no wind. :thup

On the 87 and later 22's (post classic) there is no problem mounting a kicker next to the main motor on the transom other than limited turning range if using a tiller arm, especially on the port side. I can't speak first hand of the 19.

I had a computer controlled bilge on my boat and replaced it with an internal auto-float model. It's probably just preference and I never had any problems with battery drain but there are times my boat is not in use for substantial periods and I just was always concerned that I forgot to switch it off. They are really quite quiet, while switching on and off all the time.

If you regularly bounce a C-dory in substantial chop you will occasionally have to go to the dentist to have your fillings tightened.

That "automatic" bilge pump with a "brain" that turns on and off every couple of minutes to check for water drives some people nuts, especially when trying to sleep! Plus it wastes power, though marginal in amperage.

It's only an 1100 gph pump at that, no less!

Do yourself a favor, and get a 2000 to 3500 gph pump with a float switch and hard wire it to the battery so it will protect you all of the time, especially if you moor the boat. You may have to put it larger tubing and a larger through-hull to accommodate the larger volume pump.

How much volume you need depends largely on where you expect to use the boat.

It won't use any power checking for water that isn't there, either!

KISS beats "brainy solutions" that turn out to be impractical!

I guess I don't understand what you mean about the Arima's transome being unfriendly regarding a fishing?
