Anybody else's Progressive rates going up in 2021?

They upped mine a couple years ago. Around the same time my Farmers agent called and asked to quote a policy. He sold me a policy with Foremost for quite a bit less. They wouldn't go as high on the agreed value as Progressive ($40K vs $50k) but the rate was quite a bit lower.

After discounts for having other Farmers policies it came to $361/year with $300k liability and $750 towing/assistance per incident.

It will be insteresting to watch this thread to see if I am getting a good deal or not.

I have had Farmers for several years, and was a bit "ticked" at getting forced off to Foremost, But . . . and I still get annoyed when I pay their rates, but . . . Never have had a claim, and Foremost has more than one device (boat and motorcycle) I have always had a decent agent so have stayed with. This is going to be an interesting thread.

My Progressive plan for $35,000 agreed value went from $297 to $305. I can live with that, especially where they are the only ones who would agree with this value.

On this same subject anybody use boat US for insurance ?
I have a 2018 23' C dory with them and last year was 750.00 and this year there asking for 1230.00. I priced out with a few other companies and found no better they were cheapest. They went up more than normal any others with large increases.

Our Progressive is $444 valued at $36,600 for boat and $1,400 for trailer with $300,00 Liability and $100,000 uninsured watercraft.
Uninsured watercraft is an important one. Especially if you do any fishing. It has been our experience that not all fisherman, but very many have poor boating skills/knowledge/habits and I would believe that many of them do not carry insurance.

Patty here. Just got our renewal with Progressive. Last year was $415, this year $466. Replacement value, 500K liability among many other coverages, of course.

We've insured our boats with Progressive for 21 years. Last year we settled a $30k claim with them. Took a little while but in the end they were fair. Even after the claim the increase was no more than what we had seen in previous years. The agreed value they offer in their policy is important.

I've got American Family, who is based here in Madison. My last premium, for April 2020 - April 2021 was $431. That includes the boat, motor and trailer. Colby

Update on my insurance, I was looking at a big increase from boat u.s. almost double. Some of the C brats suggested Progressive I found them to be a fine replacment around a third cost with same coverage now $380.00 with 86 thousand on boat value. Thanks for the tip

I had Markel for my trawler. It went up over $100 per year and my broker shopped around and found Progressive was even cheaper than last year's Markel policy. I just got the Progressive declaration page and can finally compare (reading insurance policies sure is fun). I have a Farmers Homeowner policy that includes my C-Dory. Also Foremost for my UTV. Farmers has never mentioned putting the boat on the Foremost policy.

I've always had the feeling that not even the insurance brokers fully understand all the terms and what I've actually purchased. It's buying a pig in a poke.

Possible reason for rate increase....

Progressive hiked my rate almost $200 after having them for 3 years. When I called them on it, they stated it was due to recent credit usage. Not credit score, not percentage of available credit used, just "we see you used your credit" of which was and is in the 800's. I also have a clean driving record to boot. I had just bought a car right before they pulled a report and that triggered them to increase the rate. My car insurance is through USAA and they use Progressive for watercraft. After numerous calls speaking to whatever managers I could, I was still stuck paying for the increase. So I did what any other any other consumer would do, started hunting for another company. I quickly was reminded that although the market resale of our boats is high and my boat was surveyed at a higher than blue book price, the blue book value is what the insurance and banks use in lieu of a "current" survey. My 3+ year old survey was no longer valid in their eyes, so..... Once again I, a) get another survey and hope to find that the new company will give me a better rate or, b) pay the higher premium (at least for that year).

In the end, I stuck with the devil I know and still have Progressive. They did lower my rate back down the next year.

If you haven't seen the below article in the news lately its worth taking notice. Check, I'm not a minority or impoverished, but the insurance companies are playing the game to benefit themselves anyway they can...

Best of luck,

John

They raised mine 2 years ago and I canceled them. I am now with Sea Tow insurance and they have been great. The customer service is great and answered all my questions. Their rates are very good with multiple options.
