Any thoughts on the Mantus anchors?

I've been searching the posts for anything on Mantus anchors and not coming up with much. Been reading about them in other websites mostly on sailboats.

Would love to get any thoughts and comments on this anchor...

I've had a 25 lb Mantus on my R25 Ranger Tug for 3 seasons now and am very happy with it. It has never let us down. We much prefer to anchor out rather than going to marinas, so I am very aware of it's performance. It always sets on the first try and apparently resets easily when wind direction changes. It may have dragged once at Lake Powell in silty bottom (we only anchor on Lake Powell, never beach it since our gear is exposed), but I reset it without additional problems.

I have 50' of chain attached to it. I think the design is excellent and includes the ability to be disassembled (although I don't).

I highly recommend them (no connection to the company :| )
 
We have a 13 lb Mantus on our 22, and it has been great anchor. We have used it all over the Southeast from Houston, were we live, over to Georgia and down through the Florida Keys. Knock on wood, it has never drug, even through the big thunderstorms that pop up in the summer. It has always set first try, and it really does set like in the videos when you play around with it in the shallows. I do always try my best to anchor in good substrate with good protection though.

I also have their dinghy anchor which I use on our kayaks, and it works well too.

I originally went with these guys because they are a local company. I spoke with the owner at several boat shows and he seems to be a great guy.
 
They are very similar to Manson Supreme, Ronca and Spade anchors. Folks who have them seem to like them. Not tested as much as some of the other anchors, but done about the same as those other similar anchors overall in the tests. I have not personally used one.

Agreed....I searched a lot of websites...found a few dialogues around them being used on sailboats in rough weather with good performance.

Am thinking about getting one for our 23 venture....my next question is the 13 or 25 lb model?

Even thinking down the road about the 2 lb for a backup anchor but leaning towards the 7 lb fortress...really like what I have read here and elsewhere on those but don't think I want one for the primary anchor.

The fortress would not be my choice for the PNW, where you have a lot of rocks. The fortress is an excellent stern anchor, the best in sand and mud.

Size wise, I can relate to the Manson Supreme--We had a 25 on the C Dory 25, which is similar the Mantus. For the 23, The 25# Mantus would be a good storm anchor--the 13# a "normal" anchor for the 23. I would look to see how it would fit on the bow roller--make a mock up from the dimensions and angles if necessary. You may have to change out the roller.
 
Thanks Bob...was thinking mostly about the light weight FX7 (4lb...had to look it up and realized I meant this one) for use on the Columbia river where I can get into sand bars (shallow water)....but this would only be for day use for the most part or perhaps for the dinghy.

Sounds like the 13 lb Mantus might be a good size/weight. Have been looking at the design and any pics I can find to see what a bow roller system would work (or not work) for the Venture.

Do like what I have seen in the videos so far. I haven't anchored a lot yet in the 10 years with the 22 but am trying to do more of it in the future on he Venture so anchoring/anchors is on my list of interests.

The 13 lb fits fine on the stock anchor roller on my 22. I know it doesn't help much, because odds are your Venture has a different type of roller.

I have never gotten an album here, so I'll see if I can get one and I'll post a picture of it for you.
 
The FX 7 held in over 50 knots of wind from the beam at Powell. I often put 2 anchors off the bow in a "V" pattern, if it looks like bad weather, especially if there is gong to be wind from the beam. The windage on the 23 and 22 is very close to being the same.
 
On our 23' we went from a 14 pound Lewmar knock off to a 25 pound Manson Supreme with 50' of chain. Extra chain and a little more weight can't hurt. We carried a 7 # Aluminum Fortress with 25' of chain as a back up.

Thanks for the additional information...believe I have 15 or 20 feet of chain.

Nice to hear the 13 lb fits in a stock anchor roller.

Figuring the 25 lb won't fit in that roller so I'm leaning towards the 13 lbm as you have.
 
I replaced our Lewmar Claw 16.5 lb anchor with the Mantus M1 17 lb. Using Mantus anchormate the anchor fit well on standard anchor roller and self deploys nicely. I use this anchor, 15 ft of 1/4 in G4 chain, Mantus Swivel and 200 feet of 1/2 inch rode. Anchor setup in our photos.
Now I can sleep at night!
 
We have a 25 lb. Mantus on our 23 Venture. Storm anchor for this size boat. Fits well on our bow roller even with Lewmar swivel. We are using 35 ft. of chain. Never a problem with anchor set on first try and have never dragged this anchor in the PNW or Canada yet.
