another radar arch question

How much taller is a tall radar arch? I have a "low profile" arch with a high top cabin. I am considering adding another 16"-20". Does this sound about right? Looking to store a dingy on top and be able to retrieve it with minimal aggravation.

thanks,

The next time I get to our boat, I'll measure it. I have the tall radar arch with the standard top, not high top. It works great for storing our dinghy under it nice and secure.

Hi Dave,

When I designed the arch for the CD22 I specified 17" from the top of the cabin top to the underside of the arch tubing. That allowed for the tube diameters of most dinghies of the size the CD22 would carry.

There is a 4" difference in height in the arch depending on whether or not you have a standard top or a tall top since the 17" of clearance remained constant.

I'd also recommend that the rocket launcher rod holders be mounted on the port and starboard sides of the radar arch as opposed to on the aft end. As you can see from Peter's picture, mounting them on the aft end reduced the clearance and requires that the dinghy be loaded from the bow.

Good point Roger. Plus, for shorties like me, I need to stand on the gunnels to retrieve the rods and when seas are rolling, it gets pretty hairy. BTDT :(

Hello Les! Haven't seen you post in a while. Perhaps I've been missing them.

I assume you mean 17" from the top of the standard top? I have the tall top and am looking for options.

Hi Al,

No, it's 17" from the center section of the cabin top (highest point) to the underside of the arch regardless of which C-Dory cabin top version you have.

The overall height of the arch changes (relative to the point of mounting on the outside edges of the cabin top) but the distance from the center section cabin top to the underside of the arch remains constant.

For the tall top the "legs" of the arch are 4" longer than they are for the standard top CD22 but we still get the same 17" of clearance for the dinghy between the popped up center section of the cabin top and the underside of the arch.
