Another Master Marine salesman gone

I thought that those of you who were at the Friday Harbor gathering and/or Bellingham might like to know that Rob, the salesman from Master Marine, no longer works there.

Rob worked with me to get some repairs done on Sea Coaster that were needed due to installation errors. He also saw to it that I got larger steps installed on my boat to make up for some things promised when I purchased the boat. ( I was unable to collect when the earlier salesman left and the promises were not honored.) Rob had the support of the factory (who actually provided steps that unfortunately didn't fit.)

I found out Rob was gone when I received a bill for the steps project. I called Master Marine several times to ask Rob what was up with this "all of a sudden" bill and finally was told he no longer works there. Another chapter in the book...

I really wonder where folks will want to buy new C-Dory's in the Greater Seattle area. Les at EQ is out, Lake Union is out, and Master Marine may be the only dealer in a very large area...

We had a fairly good experience with Master Marine when we bought our C-Dory last Spring. We dealt with Brian but he left before the sale was complete and we were handed off to Dick for the final details. I think we got a fair price and was generally satisfied with the work performed there.

Our only real problem was continued delays. I don't know that I was ever told the whole truth, since I heard different things all the time, but my general understanding was that it was related to the Honda engine choice. Master Marine is not an authorized Honda dealer, or at least wasn't then, and apparently had trouble selling us a boat with a Honda even though they assured me it would be fine when we ordered the boat. They evidently thought they could order the boat with a factory installed engine and not have to worry about being a dealer, but that was not the case. They tried to become a package Honda dealer and eventually had to buy the engine from some other dealer, I think. This whole process was very confusing and I consistently heard conflicting reports from C-Dory and Master Marine.

Regardless of that problem I got a boat that I'm happy with at a price that I'm happy with. There were a handful of small things that needed adjusting after delivery and Master Marine sent a tech to Twin Bridges promptly. Could the overall experience have been better? Probably, but Master Marine certainly wasn't a problem dealer or anything like that.
 
Oh, and C-Dory's site lists Kitsap Marina and Pacific Marine USA as dealers in Port Orchard and Bothell respectively. I don't know what the deal with Pacific Marine is though, their site looks to be in Korean...

This is why I bought my boat with Yamahas. If I had known what I know now, I probably would have bought it with Suzukis (which MM also sells.) But I am generally quite happy with my Yamahas, and they are well-supported in Canada, which is where I do a lot of cruising.

If I had to do it again I would still choose the Honda, or maybe the new Suzuki 90. I like the alternator output of the Honda over the Yamaha and the lighter weight over the older Suzuki 90.

This came up previously. Pacific Marine is the C-Dory deal for Korea and doesn't sell CD's in the U.S.
 
Don't forget to check out Sportcraft in Oregon City. I've had good experiences with them.

Also, if you can legally register the boat in Oregon, there is no sales tax.
