angler vs cruiser (16')

Sorry for the gobbledygook:

Jason, That might have to do with that there were made 16' made than 19s.

Should have said: That might have to do with that they made more 16 footers than 19 footers.

Well Folks! Guess what? I got a C Dory!!! After about 2 months of dreaming and researching and preparing, there is now a 16' Angler in my driveway! I am super excited and hope to meet some of you out there on the water and/or at the Friday Harbor CBGT in May!

Thank you all for being part of my quest! And MikeR, Jackie, Blueback, Dotnmarty it was very helpful to speak with you all.

More pics to come. And some fixin' up to do!

Congrats! Nice that you found a good deal locally. Hope to see you at Friday Harbor. And can't wait to see more pics!

Great to see you succeed in your quest for a 16 Angler James. Tell me was that the 1988 16' Angler that was for sale on Vancouver Island?

Dotnmarty, how did you post that pic of me and my new boat in your message? I'd like to know how to do that!

I'm sorry to say that it's easier to do than to explain. Do a search for "uploading photos instructions" and you will get lots of help. As an aside, I use the browser 'firefox' as 'google chrome' doesn't work for me.

Wood Zeppelin:

Congrats on your new boat! It looks as though you were able to get the photo of your boat into your album. That's the hard part, so you're over the hump. Here's what you do to get it from your album into a post. I open two tabs to make it easier.

1) Have one window or tab open to your post, where you are typing into the box like I'm doing now.

2) Then in another window or tab, go to your album (I have a bookmark for my own to make it easy). Go to the photo you want. Don't stop at the thumbnail, but rather click on the photo to make it large. Then (depending on your computer's operating system), do whatever you do to get to accessory functions. This may be right clicking, or control clicking or etc. If you are on a Mac, you'll then see "copy image location." If you are on Windows, I think you will see "Properties" (but it has been awhile...). Essentially what you want to do is copy the image location (not the actual image). Once you have that "copied," then you can leave that window or tab, and head back to the post box where you are typing in your post.

3) Now paste that image location address into your post where you want the image to appear.

4) Then, highlight that text (the image address) and go up above the post box on the right top and you will see "Img" in a little box. Click on that and it will apply tags to the image to make it show up. You want the tags to surround just the image address and not the rest of your post.

5) Before posting, hit "Preview" and see how things look. If the image doesn't show up correctly in Preview, it won't work when you post it. I find that if there is a problem it usually has something to do with how the image address has been split at the end the end of a line. Check that and backspace or something if you need to so it is not split it up incorrectly. Then Preview again.

6) Once it looks good in Preview, hit Submit, and away you go!

I'm so exited! When I was 15 years old, and first moved to the Puget Sound region from the desert of Arizona, I drempt of exploring all the inlets, islands, bays etc. in a boat. I even used to draw plans to build a boat. 30 years later, now I have exactly the kind of boat I've always wanted!

I haven't had a chance to have a maiden voyage yet. Will soon, and then will have more pics!

Thanks Everyone. This awesome community was part of what inspired me to go for it!

There is an initiation test before your a full member James. They don't tell you that and you have to find out for yourself. Congratulations! you just passed. Yeah- its being successful in posting a picture-LOL. a little tech torture and then you in.

Congrats!

And yes, do try and make Friday Harbor. I'm swamped with a house being built, but I'm hopeful I'll be there with my 16. There may be another joining me on the way over - drop me a PM if you are interested in going, and perhaps a flotilla of Mini-Brats™ will arrive together.

And yes, the primary reason I've never upgraded this site to something more modern and image-friendly...I get a twisted bit of nerdly satisfaction watching the noobs try and figure out the "picture trick".

Hey Wood Zeppelin,
There has been a lot of good advice posted, so I thought I'd contribute our experiences. My wife and I are rustic camper types, too. We chose the Cruiser over the Angler because of the v berth. We use this little boat on the fresh water lakes here in SC.

I am 6 ft. 3 in. tall and weigh 185 lbs. I found the forward v berth uncomfortable until I extended it on the port side. I simply configured a piece of plywood from the berth to the port side seat box, it's removable but we leave it in and use the area underneath as storage.

My wife is petite and 5 ft. 3 in. tall. She sleeps on the starboard side with room to spare. She also loves to make a "nest" in the v berth during the hottest part of the day and read.

We really enjoy this little boat but have found a few cons. These are:
It is "lively" at slow speeds or when at anchor. If you are anchored out and get caught in a hard rain and sitting in the seats or in the berth the boat becomes bow heavy and rain water will run forward away from the bilge pump. This water will then find it's way under the seat boxes which do not have drains.

The pros: It is easy to tow and launch. It will easily handle any of the rough water we have encountered on these lakes. It is easy on gas. We can get into the coves with shallow water other boaters avoid. For some reason the Conservation Officers (aka Game Wardens) slow down, wave at us and then go on by.

Well, take care and be safe. Spuncopper

We also have a 16 cruiser and encountered the same two issues you mentioned. We used the same fix you did with the plywood bridge and a pillow to extend the bunk. We might have a solution for the water forward issue. Today I picked up our boat from the boat repair shop after I had them build a two inch fiberglass barrier at the back of the seat supports to hold the water in the cockpit so the bilge pump can take it out. On our boat the area where the pump is mounted is very shallow and we think the extra two inches will be enough to allow the pump to keep up and eliminate water in the cabin. We won't know for a while as it is still snow ski season here in Idaho.

Hey Jack Keifer,

The two inch "dam" is a good idea and worth mulling over. What I recently did was made fillers out of PVC lumber to block the openings in front of the seat box. I made two card board patterns and used PVC lumber from Lowes to make the fillers. I installed them using Loctite Marine Adhesive Sealant again readily available at Lowes (and cheaper than 3M) to install them.

I recently washed down the interior of the boat and it was dry under the seat boxes. I may do something with the PVC lumber like you did as water will still run forward and up under the v berth.

Thanks! Spuncopper
Be safe and Boat safe
