Congratulations Hammerhead! I know you've been looking for the right C-Dory for awhile now. Looks like you found a good one. Maybe we'll run into you at Twin Bridges, we keep our boat there.

Just a suggestion, maybe you or Rick might want to put Sold in the header somewhere. Happy Boating :thup

:smiled Yeah I see rick has sale pending now, Hey Peter thanx, don't know when i may get back to washington, i would love to be fishin today, but rick needs to pry his paperwork out of dmv in Idaho so its a waiting game now, I can relate to dealing with them all the time here in the peoples republic of california... :smileo just got to try and grin and bear it :moon

But I sure am excited to finally be a c-dory owner and I noticed you have down riggers on yours, that will probably be my first addition, what do you have for down riggers? you troll for salmon i see, how much weight and what kinda set up you like to run? we usually troll dupont spinners with a blasting cap and when we hit a school we pop the cap and up they float, just a matter of picking up the floaters before the seals and great whites get um.

Here's my $.02. Scotty downriggers seem to be most popular up here in washington, the have a good pick up speed and low amp draw compared to other brands, plus a lifetime warranty. The 1106 is probably the most popular model, it is the one with the extendable booms. I love my Scotty's although I would say Cannon's look to be a close second. The new Cannon's have a black box built into them. And 12# weights all the way, you'll get alot less blow back on your DR cables with the heavier weight. As far as setups go there are lots of choices, I really like coyote or coho killer spoons behind a plaid or green flasher. But alot of people really like the old green flasher and green/white hoochie combo, which has no doubt caught countless salmon. And of course the old standby, the cutplug herring. Let us know when you come up to pick up your boat and maybe some of us can hook up for some fishing.( Seasons pending of course.) Congrats on the new CD!!

Hammerhead,

I too am a Scotty fan. They are seemingly the most ecomnomical. Very easy to use. And have a lifetime warranty. I have a 1106 and a 1099. Both of them have worked great except when the plugs got coroded due to my not using dielectric grease on them. DOH!

The new Walkers look REALLY nice too! Especially the one with the Camera built in! I haven't had a chance to use the Electric Canon's.

No matter what I would go with electrics. Sure they are more at the outset but they are so much easier to fish with that there is no way I would want to have manuals. A friend of mine has manual Canons on his boat. We were in a derby last summer and I lost a good fish due to the downrigger not being up out of the way. They are a good way to get your upper body in shape though when the fish are in thick!

I use 10lb , 12lb and 15lb weights with them. Just make sure to change the cable at least every other year. And keep an extra spool in the boat along with all the tools to splice the cable and put the new ends on. Plus keep at least 2 extra weights on board (I actually carry a total of 5)! There is nothing worse than only having one day to fish and it taking 45 minutes each way to the fishing grounds and breaking a cable without having the replacements on board when the bite is on!
