Hello everyone, My name is Tim Alspach; user name Hanuman. I feel I can now introduce myself and apologize for "lurking" for so long. Many months ago after stumbling upon a beat up, possibly abandoned, and forlorn-looking CD 18 Angler (1985 Hull #4), I surfed onto C-Brats here!

Recently, I finally located the itinerant owner and he sold it to me for $700.00.

Today, I just finished contacting Chris (owner of SCOUT) where I thanked and complimented him on his elegant restoration of his wheelhouse shown on his gallery. This CD 18 will need similar work as some knucklehead cut (more like hacked) the top and sides off. Nonetheless, hull and transom are solid & I am thrilled! I shall post some really sad initial photos sometime soon.

You are a great bunch of folks! My daughter (6yrs.) loves to fish and ogle your galleries as well. Aloha for now, Tim

Welcome and congratulations!

I will fix up a photo album for you when I get home later this evening. We're looking forward to watching your progress. You certainly sought out an outstanding consultant. Chris did an amazing job on Scout.

Hey Tim,

I'd love to see pictures of what you're up against for the rebuild. Chris did a top-notch job on Scout; Beer-Thirty did an aggressive modification adding a custom outboard bracket to his boat; I'm doing what I figure many on this site probably find an abomination - to add four feet to an '84 Classic. But we do what we do for our own needs. I don't think you have to be a particularly experienced boater to see quickly that these boats have the design wherewithal to deal with what us post-designers can throw at them - to a point, of course...

All the best to your project. There are many here who will help you post pictures if you're not familiar with the drill.

welcome, So is this a toland 18 that you found? cant wait to see the pictures.

I will be in hawaii this fall and would love to stop by and see it.

Hey thanks folks! Tom, I believe this one of "only fourteen" 18Anglers made back in '84 - '85. The Toland is a later 18'8" I think, at one time:cry, it would have looked identical to Byrdman's C-Byrd.

I'm told it was the owner before last who cut the top and sides off. I looks like it was done at sea in a drunken spontaneous fit of rage with a pocket multi-tool!
He then gusseted the corners of the new "windshield" with 3/4" ac ply, drywall screws, silicone caulk and a can of white spraypaint.

Alas, I still see a jewel

Shall we all wallow in a sea of creativity?

Aloha< Tim

Aloha kakahiaka and welcome. I lurked here for a while before we finally took the plunge, so I understand your excitement. It's amazing how some of these boats turn up in the most "remote" locations. Good luck and can't wait to see the progress. I'm sure your daughter will love the mahi-mahi, ono etc that you'll catch.

Hey y'all thanks for the comments! Everyone's heard of an ugly aloha shirt contest; I wonder if C-Brats is ready for an "ugly C-Dory" contest. I...uh...feel confident of a win. I think shes a beauty!

Yes, I am seriously mulling over several less severe ventilation options including restoring the sides and creating a pop-up hardtop or, perhaps dropping whats left and center consoling it. Its a critical issue here with deep swells outside and freediving in shoal waters etc. to be able to navigate standing up. However, I'll try not to end up with something that looks like Detective Columbo's car. Aloha, Tim
