Ad changes coming

I'll be chatting with the ad folks about some changes in the next few days, likely cutting back on locations/frequency until we have new forum software in place.

In their defense, the sites they typically manage ads on have far more capabilities for ad placement and ad availability than we do. It's typically left to site administrators like me to determine where ads go and who sees them - neither of which are easily done on this ancient forum software we're running. Basically, it's a shotgun, all or nothing approach right now.

I'll chat w/Mike, but I'm leaning towards eliminating the interstitial ad (pops up, must be closed) and the floating footer (always covers the lower section.) They would likely make a return down the road, but not until we have options in place to limit them for supporters and/or frequent contributors.

So seriously, why don't I see any pop up adds? I'm using Mozilla Firefox for my PC browser, and what ever iPhone uses on iPhone. I'm also running Malwerebytes and AVG. I just looked through settings on my phone, and does look like I have adbloc plus. Probably some ad blocker on my PC too, but not sure where to look to see what it's running. Not complaining, as C-Brats is still the same great site for me it's always been. I think there was a very short time span, maybe a day, soon after you spoke of the ads that I had a couple pop ups. But I haven't seen any since. Not even seeing the ones scrolling across the bottom that have been mentioned.

Anyway, whatever is blocking them from my system, is working great! Colby :D
 
Based on feedback, a couple ad changes were applied yesterday.

- The interstitial ad unit (pops up, must be closed to continue) has been removed.

- The floating footer has had a few tweaks made, including disabling it for tablets given the amount of screen space it takes up on those devices.
 
The annoying ads are gone. Revenues were simply not adequate to put up with the site interference they caused.

I've reverted things to how they were previously. The ads showing now are a mixture of Google ads and past sponsors - we currently have none.

Good progress is being made on the site migration announced earlier this year. The developer has done an initial successful import of content and photos, but plenty of fine tuning remains. More details on that project will be announced soon.

I haven't been very active at all since I sold Anna Leigh, and she became Tosca. I still have Alyssa Jean, my 2nd 16 and am glad to donate $60 to the cause.
