OK, I'm a old codger who remembers having to tap the phone receiver to get the operator to make a phone call. I am interested in a couple articles from the electronics sections - "C-Series vs E-Series" and "AIS in the House".I am having a tough time trying to decipher all the acronyms - though I believe I have interpreted about half of them. Here are the ones I find most troubling:
-See you at CBC/SBS
-real PIA
-many more POI
-give me a PM
-HTM
-IMHO
-OBTW
-MTBF
-posting on THT
-looking at SJI
-the CAVU conditions
-welcome at CBGT
-VTS system
Could someone publish a glossary?

heh, heh

Well, here's a few that I recognize:
PIA-Pain in "rear end"
CBC/SBS - C-Brat Convention/Seattle Boat Show
PM - Private Message
POI - Point of Interest
IMHO - In my humble opinion
OBTW - Oh, by the way...
THT - The Hull Truth (another boating website)
SJI - San Juan Islands
CBGT - C-Brat Get Together
VTS - Vessell Traffic System

CAVU - Ceiling and visibility unlimited.

MTBF - Mean time between failures

WTF.. never mind here comes tyboo..

what is HTM?

I once spent my weekends in a group called SCA sword fighting. SCA is
Society for creative Acronyms. now what that has to do with sword fighting is beyond me but it sure was fun.

Actually, Tom, I can TOTALLY visualize you at an SCA event...

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Htm:

HTM may refer to one of the following:

HTM Personenvervoer NV, the Hague public transport company in the Netherlands.
The file extension for HTML.
hitomi, a Japanese pop singer.
The Honky Tonk Man, an American professional wrestler.
Hierarchical Temporal Memory, a pattern recognition technology by Numenta.

Tom,

I was involved with the sword fighting for a while, and although I was not a member of SCA, I knew some of it's members. That was back in the dark ages of the 1960's! LOL (laughing out loud) :wink

Hey, the Navy is the king of Acronyms. They even have a DICNAVAB.

That's the Dictionary of Naval Abbreviations....

If you don't believe it, just ask Dusty or Sneaks. WETSU.

Don't ask me about that one...

Ditto on the 'he he'...there are a lot of acronyms out there...I had no idea what this one was for a while:

YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary

The sword and mace fighting group that used to beat each other with pipe insultors and lacrosse helmets painted black was called:

The Society For Creative Anachronism, not acronyms.

I wasn't one, but they frequented part of the campus when I was at school. C.W.
