So I broke my ace this weekend. Need a new switch. I called the builder and he is sending my a new one with no charge. Kind of nice.

The paint is also starting to fail and I asked what would be the best process to repaint it. He says- send it to us and we will do it for free and send it back to you. Wow. so if you have paint that is chipping off?? give them a call.
 
Wow Tom! That's customer service with a capital C. I never thought of contacting the builder for a paint related issue. Hope they have operators standing by after you outed them. :lol:
 
Yes they have fantastic customer service.

I bought one of the original Ace line haulers in 2002. After 7 years the motor was starting to strain to retrieve a pot. I called and asked if I could purchase a new motor. I was told that they didn't use the motor that I have anymore. However, we have some still in stock, what's your address. A week later it was on my door step "no charge". I saw the factory rep at the Seattle Boat Show in 2009 and expressed my appreciation of their customer service. After about 5 minutes talking to him he gave me new pulleys and drive wheel to make it more like the newer models. Free of charge. Two years ago I called again for a new more powerful motor. I received it on my door step for a nominal fee. Love those guys.

They love some people more than others.....
The switch on mine quit working too and I drove an hour and a half to their shop to have it fixed. I was charged $35 though but they did touch up some paint. I was happy they could do it while I waited.
A buddy of mine sent his to them with a blown motor and they replaced it free of charge.....and shipped it back free!
Some people get all the deals....

The rubber cover on the switch has torn. I keep saying I'm gonna get it fixed. Now I'll call them and see if they have the little rubber cover.

I had the same thing happen to mine and waited too long to fix it. Then the switch stopped working so I called them. Ace sent a new switch and rubber cover for free and included detailed instructions for how to replace it. Great service, no questions asked.
When I opened the motor to replace the switch it was obvious why it failed. The torn rubber cover had been letting in saltwater and corroded the switch bad. I had to do a lot of corrosion clean up on the motor interior but was able to salvage it and it's working good now.
Moral of this post is not to wait if the rubber switch cover fails. Get a new one and replace it right away.
 
well I pulled the motor off but had to drill one of the long screws that hold the motor together off to get it apart. decided to scrap and repaint myself for now. I have to go find a 6 1/2 #10 fine screw in the morning. I also have to find or borrow a puller to get the hub off the shaft to remove the gear box. turning into a project for sure.
 
Bummer on the screw. Mine was tough to get off but it finally gave. Maybe some corrosionX or low strength lock-tite will keep it from rusting in place next time? Also finding a good quality stainless steel screw should help. Taking the motor apart is definitely time consuming the first time but it saved me from having to ship it back and forth to Ace during the shrimp season. I might remove the gear box in the off-season so it doesn't seize. I see on the website that you can get a replacement motor. Anyone know what they charge for it?
