Access for modifications

I think I remember a previous post that provided info on getting access for routing cables (below deck & above). I think Andrew from Ranger was involved. However, I can not locate it.

I have taken delivery on my new R25 & would like to add a new digital depth gauge with glued-in hull transducer. Boat has a fishfinder with the GPS but I want a dedicated 2nd gauge because I a paranoid about hitting the bottom.

I also might want to do mods that will involve getting to roof later. Does anyone remember the previous post or can provide good discription of access locations to work with.

If anyone has added a glue-in hull transducer I would be interested in location you used. It is my understanding that the hull is not cored & any relatively falt area toward rear half of boat would be OK

You may want to position the depth finder transducer before you "glue" it in. That can be acomplished by using a baggie of water pressed tightly between the transducer and the hull.

I have prefered to build a box, lined with epoxy/glass, laminated to the hull and filled with mineral oil. The lid screws on, and there is a brass fitting for the mineral oil--

I would not use silicone to "glue" the transducer. Epoxy is used, and be sure that there are no bubbles in the epoxy. Remember that if you have to remove the epoxied in transducer, you will probably damage it.

Thanks Flapbeaker, that was post I remembered. Not sure why my search did not find it.

Dr. Bob, Mineral oil box sounds like a good idea. The digital depth finder came with a small epoxy kit and instructions to install. I was concerned about a good location since it would be near impossible to move if bad location selected. I will test location first.
