I am on The ICW in NC and need a boat for cruising up the often choppy ICW and Cape Fear river as weel as into the shallows to go to the spoil islands. Looking at the 22 cruiser and 25. Also, feel safe in a 22 with 1 engine 10 miles out or should I go with the twin 50s??

Thanks

The engine choice has been debated for years...however, it's secondary to your decision on which model to get. If you go with a 25, far more folks end up with a single due to weight. The decision is more complex on a 22.

22 vs. 25 - how many folks will typically be on board? Do you or your cruising companion care about having a shower/head?

Also, don't discount the Venture 23 and 26.

If you go with one main engine, consider also getting a kicker around 10hp, as insurance. It's also nice for low speed trolling or just toodling around very fuel efficiently. But. those twins sure look cool!

You are asking at the right place , check some prevoius posts , you will find great info. and then some.

Thoes questions should be pretty much answered by looking at the past posts , then i;d go with any specific questions from there ,the brats sure do know thier c-dorys, hope this helps.

I spent a lot of time as a boy in the areas you'll be cruising in. The 22 or 25 is and excellent choice for those waters. As far as choosing between a single, single with a kicker or twins there is a lot of information on all three configurations on the site. Modern outboards are pretty darn reliable. In good weather I have no problem taking my 22 with just a single 90 Suzuki out 10 miles. If it was something I did really often I'd probably go with twins but most of my cruising is in the protected waters of the ICW. What ever you choose you'll enjoy it. If you've never done it check out the Simmon's Sea Skiffs in the Cape Fear museum downtown. Welcome to the sight.

thanks for the timely responses. I see I'm in the right place. I'll most likely go for the 22 with the single 90 since this is my first transition to a power boat ( own an Endevour 33 sailboat now.) BTW, I spent 6 yrs in Seattle at UW. Both my kids were born there.

I'm a newbie to power boating and in late Oct. after seeing a friend's 22' cruiser decided to purchase the same model, but with a 90 Suzuki and 9.9 kicker. What a great boat! I purchased the boat new based on hearing that it can be tough to find a used 22 cruiser. (As an aside, since I knew next to nothing about the boat/power boating it would have been better for me to go with a dealer who had experience with this boat and the equipment for it.)
I had not calculated very carefully all the additional costs for the electronics, etc, etc. and the trailer. When I now see the used ones with all the add-ons I realize I could have waited, watched the ads and saved myself $.

Whatever you decide I am confident you will have many fun times and meet great people! The incredible depository of information in this group is like a living version of the Library of Congress!

Best wishes,
