Over Labor day my wife and I took our 22 Cruiser down to Bald Head Island marina for a couple of nights. It's about 40 miles one way down the intracoastal waterway with about 15 miles of that is crossing the mouth of the Cape Fear river out to the island. What a great experience! This is exactly what we bought our C-Dory for; it was our first real over night. We really enjoyed it, the weather was great and it was a far enough away to really feel like a good get away. We even had some challenging sea conditions on the way back. On Monday the winds we building due to Tropical Storm Hanna and the River was pretty rough coming back against the wind. But true to it's billing our C-Dory took it in stride and we learned a lot about how to handle the boat in rough seas.
What a comparison to this weekend when we were putting up hurricane panels, taking the boat out of the water and battening down the hatches for Hanna. All in all not to bad bit of over wash at the sea wall and a few shingles to replace.
What a difference a few days make.
