A Roadtrip to Gold Beach and Brookings

Steve and I took a short roadtrip this weekend to get some miles on the new truck so we can tow again -- stopped at the harbor in Brookings and saw these beauties

Fine looking boats -- Fire Drill and Donna Rae.

We spent most of Saturday fishing along the Rogue looking for some half pounders -- but instead, I caught a couple half ouncers (trout babies). We sure had a great time seeing some beautiful country -- I had dreams Saturday night about living on the Rogue or Chetco River...gosh, that'd be really tough to take! :smile

Very happy for you!

I knew about the troubles with the old truck and recall some hint of a new truck, but hadn't heard 'til now anything definite about a "new" truck. Any chance of your sharing with us the info about the new one. (Inquiring minds want to know... :wink )

Where do you put in on the Rogue? Always wanted to go up that one and stay awhile.

Of course I don't know where Caty and Steve put in, but if I'm not mistaken the Rogue River is navigable (IN A JET BOAT) from it's mouth on the ocean at Gold Beach all the way up to Grants Pass and a way beyond.

It's frequently shallow, though, and leads through some narrow canyons.

It has plentiful Chinook salmon and steelhead trout in it during the fall, and a local tour service based in Grants Pass provides signt seeing runs up and down the river to view wildlife in large jet boats.

Joe's correct about the Rogue...it's very much like the Chetco in Brookings...for the Rogue, they have a 6-lane ramp...NICE in Gold Beach -- there's a tidewater area that seems we could fish easily, though most of the boats at both ports fish just outside in the ocean -- I keep seeing the signs for the Mail Boat rides and it looks like great fun (and we might just find some great looking fishy areas as well)...our list of things to do when we retire just gets longer and longer

I'll post pictures of the new truck when she's all finished out (bedliner, air and bug deflectors, steps, etc -- maybe with an elk in the back since we're going elk hunting east of Baker City next weekend! :smilep

I'm familiar with the upper Rogue, having had a mining claim on part of the river (Taylor Creek) but had never been to the lower part of it. Thanks for the Gold Beach ramp info.
