I think the Smart Cars were developed for close-in, downtown, city driving. Short distances and hard to find parking areas.
Yep John, I agree. On the other hand, that's a lot of what a motorhome doesn't do well with at all!
Most "toads" or "Dinghy's" double as the family second car, so it was high on our list. Heck, the Honda CRV works and most any GM vehicle can be towed without a dolly so it's mostly personal choice. If we went stick shift, the field is really open but after decades of commuting in So Cal traffic with a stick shift, I'm spoiled. My personal 'Druther would be a Toyota but they are very secretive about their transmissions so the after market guys who make them into towed vehicles are stuck with disconnecting the drive shaft and pruning the drive shaft length instead of a simple oil pump arrangement.
I know a few Prius owners who are happy as clams out of reach of Dusty's clamming efforts, but I really didn't like the interior road noise aspect. Otherwise, I agree with earlier posters, it's a great technological leap that opened the door to alternative fuels in a big way.
