Dave! Good for you! You have done so much for so many other people, and though I know you won't stop caring for and helping the whole community it is great that you now will have more time to spend for yourself and those you care most about. I'm happy for you and proud to know you.

Congratulations and thank you for your time (and lost sleep).
Having spent a time with a fully vollunteer fire service, I can relate to the lost sleep.
I hope you find retirement long and full of fun.

Meredith & I send our heart-felt congratulations to you and a huge thank you for your service. As a LEO, I know the day to day (& night to night) demands of your job can take a huge toll on a person. You obviously handeled those stresses w/ professionalism, humor and integrity. Enjoy the time off; you deserve it!

I must say I was a bit envious when I saw you the other day. I know that come Thursday, the uiniform goes back on and I'm back to reality. Oh, well...one day.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Since I'm well into retirement (ie: the second day), I've not accomplished a lot yet. Carol had bunion surgery on her right foot in July (last summer she had surgery on the left foot) so I have kept busy chauffeuring her around as she is not suppose to drive. Since I saved the majority of my vacation time for July and August, I've actually been able to "practice" the life of a retired guy. But again that was spent as a personal chauffeur to my bride.
The last two days I've driven her to her school so she could get the health room all set up and ready for the onslaught of little kids with snotty noses, coughs, seizures, diabetes, allergic reactions, etc. etc. and of course the ones that just want to get out of class to see Nurse Carol.... :wink .
After her school starts, I'll start my day by seeing her off to school, then I can enjoy the retired life be lying back in my easy chair like the rest of you old geezers and snooze away... :mrgreen:

I'll let you know how that goes for me....LOL.

(Those of you that know me, know that the scenario of me snoozing away all day ain't gonna happen. Actually, I'm looking forward to having some boat time.... :thup and I just might get a few things accomplished on the home spread).
 
Hey Dave,

Sorry about being a come lately here but I just caught this and want to chime in with Congratulations. You are a a true professional and (this may be news to you) you won't have to be putting on the uniform any more, but you will never not be a paramedic at heart, and you may not have to wake to the tone out now, but you will wake, only to realize it was only a dream and you can now roll over and go back to sleep. That call was for the other guys now.

Good luck my friend, sleep well, and often when you need to. It will get better, and your easy chair thing. I'm betting you won't be wearing it out too soon. Time to do some boating, fishing, and yes, it's OK to polish the boat too, for as long as you want.
