a different c-dory

Cool boat, a 22 Angler with the overhang from a 22 Cruiser. Sweet looking boat. Too bad I need to wait a while!! Yet another "deal of the year" for this wannabe. Very tempting.

The link doesn't work, but if you check the Seattle Craig's list, this boat and a 16' show up.

I wonder what the CD22 would look like and how handling might be affected by extending the roof back completely over the cockpit all the way to the transom. This is an option on the Rosborough. I might personally be interested if I could see one and confirm to myself that it looked good. Mike.

Take a look over at red foxes site. he added a top all the way back on his boat. I also think that some one on the east coast also added a hard top.

How it would affect handling????? I must be missing something there.....

I can tell you that I have thought about adding a cockpit hardtop myself. I went so far as to ask Scott Reynolds if they would sell me another CD 22 hard top. He indicated he would for like $1000 (maybe it was $500, I don't recall. What I'd like to do is to create a system in which the cockpit cover would slide forward on rails so I could get anything from complete coverage to none. I like the idea of Red Fox's cockpit hardtop and particularly like the way it's attached at the stern (with rails that are inboard and in the motor well - this frees up the corners for fish fighting). However, I think the flat square lines of the hardtop that Greg added are a bit ugly so I'd rather have a top that looks like the rest of the boat.

Not sure what my addition did to handling, since I did it before we ever really used the boat.
The sliding roof sounds like a great idea!
My framework would likely get in the way if we did ALOT of heavy fishing, but I have no regrets so far. I'm fitting some bars to the rails above the cabin today...to mount a cartop carrier for our upcoming TN River trip. I've also added a hinged frame above the cooler rack that has a removable cutting board, a perforated stainless condiment rack, and a tray for our cookstove.

Here's my pics...

I've always liked the curve in Thelma Lou's canvas top, but personally would favor a matching fiberglass hard top that was flush with the cabin top. My concerns about extra windage, higher CG and moving weight aft are probably overblown but I'm not a trailblazer when it comes to major structural modifications and would not want to be the first to make this addition. Something specified and built by the factory would be a definite plus for me. As I age I find I really don't like to be out in the direct sun much anymore. I also think this type of roof might keep the cockpit a bit dryer if a gutter was designed in. I can easily imagine attaching roll-up side curtains to such a structure in order to enclose the entire cockpit when desired. Very interesting thought. Mike.

One thing about ours...we raised the original design by 7"...this made the headroom underneath just about perfect. The width is also just right, and provides a slight slope outward at the bottom when the canvas is installed, but the frame is a bit too wide when going thru the locks...care must be taken by having the wife stay on the opposite side of the boat to keep the rack from hitting the lock wall....larger fenders would also cure this.
I doubt that my entire rack weighs much more than a heavy duty radar arch. The tubing is 1x1 thin wall, and the arched shape gives it the strength that it needs to easily support the canvas.
