I want to sell the ~1998 Honda 90 that came with my boat. I'm planning to repower with a Yamaha 115. When I got the boat, it had sat with the motor in a field for about 10 years. A Honda mechanic ran his carb-cleaning procedure twice to get it running. And, it ran nice; just purred and had lots of get-up and go when he was done with it.

Now, it's been sitting for about four years. I'm thinking about having it gone over by a good mechanic to bring it up to snuff. The cost estimate to clean the carbs and replace water pump expendables is around $5-600. I'm wondering what this engine would sell for, and if it might be better to let someone else (perhaps a serious outboard DIY guy) have the project rather than putting in my dollars. I've searched, but not gotten any hits for sales on such a motor.

Any guidance on this?

Thanks.

Prairieboy is not done, but the decks are being cleared to recommence work. Sometimes, life just isn't fair... But, thanks for asking.

You got that right Tom, commencing here again too, with electronics! :thup You'll find a taker for the engine. Talk with the dealer you're buying the replacement from, won't be as much but no shipping, etc, etc. All the PITA stuff and quicker too!..

I find myself particularly lucky in that we have a fairly new Yamaha dealer in my little Kentucky town. The installer has a good reputation among people I know so I appear to be in good hands. He's the guy that would be doing the tune-up on the Honda as well, if I decide to spend those bucks.
