25 motor size

All points are very valid as to the engine size for the CD25. The max HP from the factory is 200HP, so anything you are comfortable with from 200HP down to a 135 is going to work. I personnally prefer the high end for that time you will need it most.

It still comes back to when we first decided to choose the C-Dory. In what manner and how are you going to use this boat?

I went with the twin 90HP (2004) HONDAs back when. They were lighter than any of the other 90s. They are also carb'd vis fuel injection as they are now. I wanted the redundancy AND the close quarters maneuverability for docking at the marinas here which seem to have a lot of cross currents and opposing winds when backing in for retrieval at the finger piers (lots of sail area with only 9" draft).

This twin stuff is not to confuse or suggest single verses twin, just a point of awareness for your future boating/working situations.

The twins ARE more expensive to purchase and maintain - 8 vs 4 carbs, 2x everything on the service needs, 2 props, etc.. That expense is what I have to pay for the peace of mind and experience I desire. Yes, they do look cool, but at my age,,,cool is not needed any more. Nothing to prove.

As to speed - 32+kts is abt my max with all the 'stuff' I carry. The fuel consumption charts are available on several albums. My fuel notes are within this link:

Hope this did not add too much confusion. Good luck and have fun as you do your search of the 'right' power plant.

I dunno. Bob keeps telling me that 130HP is underpowered, but I'm one BF130 owner who has been quite satisfied with this engine. We have travelled 11,500+miles on the Cosmic C, most heavily loaded for cruising. When new and without bottom paint, we saw 30+mph lightly loaded on smooth water, 27mph when heavily loaded. Now with bottom paint and age the numbers are more like 27mph and 24 mph. We can cruise all day at 21-22mph, but usually prefer 18-19 mph. Our lifetime fuel consumption average was 2.60 mpg through about 5000 miles and has now declined to 2.52 mpg. We've hit rough weather 30 miles offshore on Lake Michigan, 40+ miles offshore in the Gulf, really nasty stuff on the Delaware Bay, and never felt we needed more power, partly of course because we go much slower under these conditions. About the only time I can envision really needing to run at 30mph is to avoid a storm, but it had better be the calm before the storm that you're running in or you'll need new kidneys and tooth fillings when you arrive!

The new Yamaha 200 hp inline four cylinder shows a weight of 489 only four pounds heavier than a Suzuki 175 at 485.
Cosmic,
I think Bob might have been referring to performance at higher elevations, like at Yellowstone 8000'.

There is a 25 for sale on-line that only has a 115 HP 2 stroke... I had to do a double take, as I was surprised that someone would put such little power on a boat that could have a lot of weight to push around, if loaded for a typical trip.
Just seem odd...
