24 TomCat Scupper Fix

I was pm'ed and asked to clarify my scupper fix. All 24 TomCat's suffer from water on the back deck if stern heavy. This was readily apparent to us the first time we used the Molly Brown back in July of 2002. We eventually came up with what turned out to be a simple and elegant answer to the problem. We have not had to modify nor maintain this fix after 12 years and thousands of miles. See the attached pictures......

It is nothing more than a stainless nut and bolt just above the "0" section of the flapper keeping the flap pinched. As water rises up the stern it closes the flap naturally. If you can tell it is not necessary to have it pinched completely shut. Water rising will force the flap against the opening. The weight of any water coming down the tube from the cockpit will seep out. It opens slightly any way as the stern rises or while under way. We have had zero issues with this fix. Please bear in mind that due to the camera angle you don't get a feel for the angle of the flap in relation to horizontal.

P.S. Did not get any replies to my post about the Savannah River which is usual considering the vast knowledge on this site. If anyone from Georgia or South Carolina has any info on the section of river between Savannah and Augusta please let me know. Looks like about 170 miles of unspoiled river and limited research shows it was used to transport goods in years past, way past.
