22 Cruiser

NADA listed retail used values for late model boats appear to be $10,000, or even more, lower than the prices listed for boats at Boat Trader or Yacht World. Is NADA way off or do the dealers simply grossly inflate the asking prices? Does anyone know the dealer markup on new boats? It seems much harder to figure out what a fair price is compared to shopping for a car. I'm ready to buy now but would prefer avoiding a trip to the cleaners. Thanks for any help or advice. One of many reasons I'm drawn to the C-Dory is the apparent tight knit community of owners.

This has been disscussed many times go into search mode . Nada seems to depreciate by year it does not take into account for the loyalty of the consumers . It seems that Arima , C-Dory , and years ago Boston Whaler hold their resale value a lot better then your bayliner type of boat . If you need to look and drive a few let me know we have the 22angler with a j90 and a 22 cruiser witha 90 suzuki with warranty and a 06 cape cruiser 23 with a f115 yamaha . by the way the c-22 is for sale look it up in photos page 6or 7 under the Duck if you have any questions give a call 239-269-9537 Jim on Duck

Actually its the owners that inflate [ or drive ,if you will] the values . Most C Dory owners take very good care of the boats and accessorize them in such a way that another potential C Dory owner sees value in , and most have traditionally paid cash ,taking the bank loan [ NADA or ABOS ] values out of the picture .The quality of ANY vintage of C Dory is far above the industry average , and there are no C Brats working at NADA that I know of . It actually makes it hard for an honest dealer to take a trade at book value and sleep at night . Oh and yes , all dealers are making a killing and have no conscience.
Hey Jim , have you retired yet , maybe I can get you part time...............

Marc makes good observations about the market.
C-Dory's are worth what YOU think they are - not the "rating" companies worth.
Before I bought @C, I asked BUS rating service what they thought the boat was worth, and they came back with -
"so little activity and info on recent sales" about 2 to 3 K. That's not what the marketplace allows and low for
what I thought the boat was worth.
I paid less than the seller's asking price, but not more than I wanted to pay, but more than their valuation.
What is the boat worth to YOU?
Just my .02,

Hey Beachbob,
When you try to find any boat that even comes close to what C-Dory offers you find what a great value these boats really are. These boats are really cool and worth every dollar you pay. l'm very excited when I see a 25 year old boat that still looks like new, worth repowering and off for another quarter century of service. Break out the bucks and have a great time. :smiled

I appreciate the input. I think I'll enjoy the high resale value a whole lot more when I'm on the owning end as opposed to the buying end! I went on several 22 Cruisers yesterday in N.C. and they were as cool as I thought they would be. They are like beautiful little ships. I saw an '05 model and a new '08. I noted that the CG plate for the '05 lists max capacity at 6 persons or 1000 lbs and the '08 at 8 persons or 1200 lbs. Other differences are the nicer cockpit floor, the ability to have the forward dinette seat face forward, and fuel injection on the 90 hp Honda.
