22 Cruiser w/ Twins- prop size?

We're rigging a 22 Cruiser with new twin 60 E-Tecs.

Now, stupid me, we had a 22 Cruiser with twin 50's on it, and I didin't look at that boat's props to see what size they were running.

So what are you guys with twins running on the 22's?

Twin 60 E-Tecs, are they going to water ski behind it? That a good deal of power.
 
The sixties are the same block as the 40 and 50, so for a bit more money thay have a bit more power.

Should be fun to sea trial this boat!
 
Can't help with the prop question but I like the idea about the 60's the most engine for the weight. when you need it you have it.
 
I definately like the idea of the same weight more HP idea, and I assume those E-Tecs are pretty light to begin with. May have to wait until DaveS comments since he has the twin 50's to see what he is running prop wise, well then again his are Johnson motors
 
The Johnsons will get me close. Even a pair of 50 Honda's would get me to a starting size. We'll sea trial and dial in from there.

The hot twin set up down the road might be the new 40 and 50 Suzuki's. Lightest weight in class, and they tilt way up to get out of the water when not in use.

In order to get my WOT over about 5400, you put 11 5/8 X 11 (3-blade) props on the twin Yamaha 50's on my CC Venture 23. I'm now getting 5800-5900 WOT w/ a light load.

My twin Johnson 50's (aka Suzuki's) sport 3 bladed props that are
11 3/8 X 14. I'm unable to supply you with specific data on them however I have been pleased with their performance and I know that Les at EQ Marine was very pleased with them.
While with our fellow C-Brats last weekend for the Port Townsend Safety Patrol, I noticed that C-Cakes has 4 bladed props on his twin Honda 40's.

Sorry I won't be much help to you here though Matt. SleepyC has twin 40 Yami's with Pro-Pulse, 4 blade props but I have no idea of size or pitch. I do think that 60 x 2 is going to really scoot. :thup :thup

I need to research that and put that info into the log book , thanks for the idea.

I have twin Suzuki 50's. The props are 11 1/2 x 13
The boat was outfitted for running at sea level, but I've only run it on Lake Powell and they seem to give me what I should expect at that altitude.

I am running the same props as Noro Lim for my twin Yamaha 50's on a CD22 and getting pretty close to the same results.

Alright-

I have come back froma boat ride, and I must say this boat scoots. I did not have a GPS unit, so can't give exact numbers.

I can tell you that 13 1/2 x 15 inch props turn at 6000-6100 rpm, which is at the very top of the rpm band for the E-tecs. I would figure the boat loaded will turn around 5600-5700.

The big bore two strokes create some vibration at idle (shutting one off eliminates it), but at 900 rpm and above the vibration is gone and the engines are quiet.

4500 seems is a nice speed to cruise at.

Thought you would all want a report back.

For comparison purposes:
Evinrude has a 2.67:1 gear ratio
Yamaha has a 1.85:1 gear ratio
Suzuki has a 2.42:1 gear ratio
Honda has a 2.08:1 gear ratio

Matt, actually, How fast were you moving at 4500 RPM? or was there no speed indicator available? (I did see the comment about no GPS.)

I wish I had had a GPS with me, so I have no idea of speeds.

The boat just felt very nice at 4500. It would stay on plane at much lower speeds. At 6000 it would begin to porpoise, but I didn't play with the trim tabs, so that might have been alleviated.
